the last few pictures that i have loaded to my computer from my camera say they have a virus when i try to open them through email. I have scanned the photos and my computer and no virus was detected. I'm using Norton 2005 so i dont understand where the virus is.

photo's and music cannot contain viruses. Perhaps its a setting in your mailer program??? Norton is also system heavy and can slow down your pc. I would recommend PC Cillin. The also have an online virus scanner you can run to see if you have a virus affecting your norton.

this is what it says

Name of File 158_5848.JPG
Virus Scan Result Unknown virus scanner failure Virus Found
Note: There is no cure available for the virus on the file 158_5848.JPG

It is not possible to download files from Hotmail that contain incurable viruses. Contact the originator of the file, inform them that the file contains a virus, and ask them to send a virus-free version of the file.

Photo's (jpg format), can contain viral payloads. This was discovered about one year ago. It is something that could only affect Microsoft Windows Computer systems.

So, if you use Linux or MacOS, you have nothing to fear from a JPEG virus.

Norton is crap. There's this freeware program "Avast!" //www.avast.com/
I've been using it for a few months now, and it's a very light and efficent virus scanner. Plus, it downloads all the virus lists automatically.

That is correct. It's to do with Microsoft GDI+ development library that supports graphics rendering. This tends to affect newer Visual Studio .NET developed applications (note. this is NOT the same as the .NET framework). I believe the vulnerability is due to a buffer overrun causing out of scope code to be executed.

Please DO NOT say jpegs cannot contain viruses.

This statement is SO WRONG! They most certainly CAN contain virii! And they can contain the worst kind as well - the instantly executable kind where just opening the file - viewing the pic or listening to the music - will execute the viral code.

I sadly can attest that JPG's can contain viral load....oh yeah can I attest to that!
