With all the challenge suggestion being posted in the threads and endless possibilities why is DPC continuing with challenge sequels?
Do they have code that randomly picks challenges?

Just to name some

I think we are on our 352nd challenge. That would mean that about 16.5% of the challenges have been sequels or related. Not complaining, just wondering...

beg to differ a little on the methodology..

you have counted the original and the sequal.
We have 29 sequals which equals 8% of the challenges...

But they are related as I stated. I don't mind sequels but we do have a lot of people suggesting challenge topics.

I too would like to see some of the suggestions as challenges.

It's not about the number of suggestions, it's about what the site council deem as "good" suggestions.

Using old challenges makes senses because for the most part they were successful the first time, and secondly, a good proportion current DPCers wouldn't have been around for the first challenge anyway.

Is it too early for Birds II ?

I like sequels, it gives me a chance to participate in challenges that I've always wished I could have entered.

Also, it may force us to innovate a little more, be more creative, since we have the previous challenge entries to study, and *usually* most people would be less inclined to repeat a shot, and would try to be original.

I also like the idea of sequels but I also like the idea of sequels from basic editing to advanced editing and vise versa.

Why not do as they do on ljosmyndakeppni.is (Icelandic) Users vote for a change.

For me, this answer is easy. I'm new. As are many of the people here on this webpage in the past several months. I would like to take part in some of these challenges. And judging by the number of entries in many of the "sequels", I'm not alone.

I do, however, believe there are a lot of untouch subjects that could and should be presented. Many great suggestions are being made for challenges. And there are hundreds more that haven't been suggested.

I agree. DPC users sometimes use ideas that have been done before. Not a problem but when its for a challenge...!
Also I believe that too many people are banking on a stunning image which barley relates to the challenge at hand, purely looking for high scores.

Come on people, stick your necks on the line and try something different.
E.G. How many waterfall images have been submitted since samtrundle's CASCADING.

Probably not as many as were submitted before it.

Just a note -- the SC does not have final authority as to whether a challenge topic is good or bad or is used or not. When you (the users) make a suggestion, someone from the SC will add it to the evergrowing list of challenges in a database. If a description has been written, that is added as well. If not, the topic is added and someone from the SC will add it sometime. D & L approve the topic/description, and it goes into another "queue," and from there it is sheer magic to how it gets chosen. ;) (The site council does not choose which topic appears when).
