is the red flower the subject or the white ones? if the white ones why are they extending out of the frame?

The background is a little busy with no obvious focal point. The eyes dont really rest on anything too long although they do tend to go to the white flowers since they are the brightest area of the image. Since they are so close to the edge the eyes seem to hit them and then leave the image without feeling like anything was really viewed. The white flowers also look overexposed. When you use selective desaturation it is more commonly used to isolate either a color theme or a subject. By keeping all the flowers in color you are just encouraging the eyes to bounce around the image and not isolating anything in particular.

What you are saying, moodville makes perfect sense. It is amazing that when you get focused on learning something new, attempting to desat. you lose perspective on other important elements. You are right there is no focus.

if this was submitted in a challenge, I would mark it down for being

1) confusing
2)too saturated
3)soft
