Hey all...

I am down visiting relatives for the weekend, and I logged on to DPChallenge on my father-in-law's computer, and was very surprised to view my own pictures in a completely different light.

I've been getting some comments on my Bird submission that it is over-processed and maybe a little too bright...it looks great on my computer, but now that I look at it on my father-in-laws machine, I can see what everyone is meaning...erf!

So, my question is...how do I go about getting a more general, level or normal however you want to call it setting on my machine to get it set at what others are maybe seeing...how do I know if my monitor is displaying brightness/contrast at a normal level...etc...

I'm not sure my question makes sense, but you probably know what I mean...

Is it a PC/Mac difference? PCs and Macs have different standard gamma settings which can account for a darkening when an image prepared on a Mac is viewed on a PC.

Different calibrated monitors will have different looks. Lcd and Crt monitors will differ too.

There are devices to calibrate monitors.

CRT to CRT

PC to PC

His monitor isn't a higher quality monitor or anything either...both are on the cheaper end of the market...

You might want to go through this tread. There are some links to tools that can help you calibrate your monitor.
