It's embedded in the exif data of the photo assuming the camera is set to the right date...

What picture editing software are you using?
Most photo software will read the exif data file that is attached to you photo when you download it from the camera. |

its on the exif of the original jpeg or raw file... so it would be right click > properties > summary > advanced, and all the info is there including date, time, camera settings, model etc.
this is in windows explorer btw...

Not legally for challenges. The SC will know if the exif data has been modified. They're psychic!

Damn Nick! I learn something new everyday. I never went all the way to the advanced tab so I did not know it was there. Thanks! |

I'm not ultra technical but if the exif data file is altered it changes the files attributes and they can read the discrepancy.
edit: I think

If you are asked to submit the original for verification, the exif file will show if there have been any modifications, and the date of the modifications.

The simple answer is YES by EXIF DATA and NO it cannot be changed legally.
Sorry you had the problem with the date but many have had the same problem and had to skip the challenge or re-shoot the picture. No way around it unless you want to be DQ'ed if a request for the original is asked for by DPC.

For the challenges, you should know when it was taken because legally, it should have been taken within the last 7 days. |
