i finally got my first request for making a portfolio for an aspiring model. i will not be making any money on this job as i have requested to be able to use what photos i take in my own portfolio as an aspiring photographer.all the photos will be copied to a cd for him to have printed himself. he is a relative of a friend and mostly the reason i am doing it for free( plus i cant charge him for what i see as crap!)I did some pictures of his cousin(for my self and her mother). i was just playing around and he claims to love my work.I am as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs!
my request is for a "model release" form and some suggestions on what poses to have him do. i have told him to bring a few outfit changes for different views. the pictures will be done outside tonight at around 7pm. I want to give him the most professional portfolio i can but i am not sure i can pull it off. HELP ME PLEASE!!!!
~Cher~
P.S. i have the photos of his cousin i took in "my photos" link in my signature( under portraits) i dont think they are good enough to be called work but hey this could be a good learning adventure in the least...i just hope i get some real good shots. ill post a link to them tomorrow or later tonight(both orginals and processed)
(posted here per request) for users who have sig turned offmy photos

Cher, you might want to paste the link in your sig into the post, for those of us with sigs turned off.

FWIW, signatures are now visible on a user's Profile page. Langdon graciously added it for easy reference for those us who have signatures disabled.

Well, I've never done this type of work so I don't have any real advice that would be helpful other than to say you may want to check out Kevin Riggs and hanlomba's portfolios. They seem to do a lot of model work and have a good spattering of poses in their ports. There are several others folks here on the site, these just sprung to my mind first.
I mainly just wanted to chime in and give you some words of encouragement. It'll be a great learning experience for the both of you. Best of luck! :-)

i also have this question....he has his nipples pierced(I think) and his lower lip...should I ask him to take them out for a few photos or for all of them? i dont know how piercings are percieved in the modeling industry. i have been searching portfolios here and i havent found many with men as the model :( i am looking for pose ideas but i dont think many of the women poses will work for him.

I've never done anything like this, but from what I've read the idea with model/actor portfolios is to get their versatility across. So you should take lots of different shots. Some with and some without piercings would prob'ly be best, having the majority without, as the squeaky clean look might get him more work. |

take it for what its worth?...hmmm..ok. *adds it to muh photographers bible* thanks for the newest chapter. thank you for the "model release" too. I would have had all this sooner but I was totaly unprepared to be asked this question at all as Im real new(to photography in general) and i dont feel strong enough in my work to even fathom getting asked. I have also been asked to photograph my husbands cousins wedding but i will be doing that with my sister in law( my partner in crime) so i will be more copmfortable with that adventure. thanks for all the info..u totally rock in my book!
