Was at one of the rugby games and took a photo of a little girl. Got an email address of the family and sent a small copy through to her parents. They would like a copy.

How do you guys set a price for something like this? Not good at marketing. Paper pays for my work but they set the price, rest is mainly given to friends. Only other images I've sold was for local dog obedience and they just really paid the cost of printing.

Advice......and I'd love to hear how you set prices for photos, not prints.

thanks

heyah, sue!

i think it depends on what you want to do. if you are going to be in the business of 'event photography', you would probably do better to price them higher. the model i heard about here that i liked the most was something around $20-25 for an 8x11 sheet that offered multiple print options (1 8x10, or 2 5x7s, etc).

on the other hand, if you have already been 'paid', then maybe something like $3 for a 4x6, $5 for a 5x7, $10 for an 8x10, $15 for a 'package' of 1 8x10 and 2 5x7s. that is a fair price for something shot without the intention of reselling it. you make a little and stand to gain more in terms of exposure.

good luck!

Sometimes is better to get exposure than to get proper pay, if you are starting. At least that's what I think.

I do weddings and event photography, but I'm new at it so I charge cheap because I want to get portfolio and I want people to talk about me and to pass the word. Thant certainly the moust effetive publicity: when a costumer is happy with your job and recomend it to someone.

I charge 2.5 euros for 15x20 cm and 4.5 euros for 20x30 cm. I'm knot that good in converting to inc. but I think it will be 5x7 and 8x10 equivallent.

Amazing photo Sue, truly amazing. Give it to them for free in exchange for a model release so you can use it and possibly sell it elsewhere and make much more money off it.
