Tokina 12-24 (wide angle-lanscape)
Canon 28-135 IS (walking around)
Canon 70-200 f2.8L (portraits, sporting activity)
Digma 50-500 (animals, poporazzi type street candids)
and perhaps a Tamron 17-35 XR Di f2.8-4 or a Sigma 18-50 DC f2.8 (leaning toward the Tamron b/c it is made for a full frame as well). I'd use this range for a bit of architectural and wider walking around. I think the Sigma is already sold. May just keep the 55-200 and the kit lens and hold off on the Tamron. I could go either way but I'd rather have less lens so that I can take all of them in my big old backpack. I have a feeling that the Cano 55-200 and the Sigma 70-300 will get a lot less use as I'm using the L and will soon use my Digma. Hate to think of parting with them but oh well, perhaps a Tamron 17-35 can console me. :)
Yea, let me know if you know of anyone interested in those two Canons. I was looking at selling through "I sold it on eBay" but they charge a 33% commission and I'm too lazy to sell stuff on eBay, although I might have to in order to justify another lens purchase in my mind.
Hey Raul, do you use MSN messenger?

Np, will notify you if anyone is interested
I do have MSN but i don't use it often, I use AIM like 24/7. Those are some nice ranges. I'd love to pick up that Digma one day... I love candid street portraits

Well, I've packed up my Sigma, kit lens, and the Canon 55-200mm. Shot the Canon lenses to view on smugmug. Sigma will go to my collegue on Thurday for his film Rebel. Made room in my bag for the Digma.
As for the ranges, I do like them. The Tok for large arenas like baseball bark, landscape/nature, landmark. The Tamron for walking around, The 28-135 for walking around and close up portraits, the L for Portraits ans sports, the Digma for birds, animals, sneaky street portraits. Got all the usual photography areas covered now.
You should use your Nikon 70-300 for that. Almost all of mine were done with the Sigma at or near 300mm (480mm in 35mm format).

Hey guys, could we maybe move lens talk to the General LA DPC chat thread? I want to try to get more LA area DPCers on track here for this Saturday if that's cool... :) You can over-rule me on this one, but it's just an idea. :)

I think we're aiming for 10AM at the zoo with tickets. I will also need to bail out early around 3 but I can come back out for night shots if people plan to do that. It'll be nice to meet you, too, Gringo! :)

Greg did you get your DOH!!! lens?
I heard it's preferred by Homer Simpson.
How do you like it? and will you bring it to the zoo?

Tom, Bobby is going to go with us. He's going to leave early though, so he'll drive me over... then you can take me home maybe?
We are planning to get in line at 9:30am to get our tickets (passes).
We should meet at the entry gate (with ticket in hand) at 10:00am or just before.
If ALL of us are there, we can go in earlier. Who's in? Say "I am!" in a post. Then, if I don't have your phone number (cell), PM me with it and I'll PM you back with mine.
:) Arie

Well, what a day, just like x-mas.
My Digma came today (ordered 6/3/5, shipped 6/6/5 with UPS 3 day)
My Tamron ordered on 6/8 got here today as well. Wow Beachcamera is really good with shipping. To top it off UPS 3 day was $18, for my Digma, overnight FedEx from Beachcamera is FREEEEEEEEEEEEeeee and overnight.
I've bought three lenses and a camera from Beach and their price is the lowest and their delivery is faster than anyone else I've dealt with.
Good thing I've made room in my camera bag for all the new lens and have sold my beloved Sigma 70-300 APO II to my collegue. Well two more lens to sell.
I'll be bringing only my Digma to the zoo.

uploading the digma's test shots now. I shot a street sign handheld for the first time. Wow, very sharp at 100% crop handheld too, imagine if I actually use a tripod in good light.
The Tamron is said to have CA at 17mm, and you can see it on one of the shots but not bad at all.

Hi Tom-
I did get my lens in time for my Vegas trip but didn't use it there. I used my 16-35 for my Vegas sign photos instead. I love IS and can't wait to make use of it. The new DO lens will be at the Zoo (and the 16-35) in case you wish to try it. :)
PS: Why are you selling your 70-200 2.8 L lens?

No, I'm selling the 55-200 USM mark II lens. Gonna just use the L lens from now on for midrange telephoto. The 55-200 is a small/light kit looking lens. Nice and sharp though.
I've pics of it on my smugmug site.
I've bought a poor mans pseudo 16-35 f2.8/17-40 f4L lens AKS Tamron 17-35 Di f2.8-4. I was thinking about bringing it but will be doing all my shooting with my digma instead he he.

You know what guys, I realize that if we start at 10AM, then sun sets about 8PM now, that's about 10 hours from the zoo opening.
I think I'm gonna call it a day before then.
On the good side, the weather should be a bit cool and cloudy, just perfect for us.

Bobby's getting ready. It's 9:24. We'll be leaving here at 9:45am. If you want to go in without us, that's ok. I'll call you as soon as we have tickets in hand. Looks pretty grey out. I hope our photos won't be too drab. I like the idea of no harsh shadows, but I also like brilliant color. Tom, I need to borrow your rocket air. I have specs everywhere from Laguna Beach yesterday and Samy's is still out of Eclipse!

he he, mine are uploading as we speak.
The high ISO does introduce more noise and make corrections more difficult even when shooting in RAW. But overall, I'm happy with the results.

nice images Tom, but this one has to be my favorite by far:
//yido.smugmug.com/gallery/588421/2/24689091
and not for the "cuteness" factor or whatever else someone might choose it for.. but the atmosphere is great! one has what looks like a cigarette in its mouth, the picture is full of smoke, and to top it all off - they look pretty apathetic about the whole situation! fantastic shot.

Thanks Brian,
Those are my "Chimps in the Mist" series. We shot the chimps close up and everyone went down hill to shoot the giraffes. I remembered from Rick Sammons photography book to always to look down, up, and behind as you shoot. So I turned back and saw a hidden hill with mist where all the chimps were actually hanging out. So while the group shot giraffes, I turned around and shot the chimps with the Digma.
I've uploaded the last batch, so I'm now done and I'll have the aquarium shots that I'll be doing uploaded as well.
I like to have fast turn arounds and processing times for my images so that the sensation and memories of the shooting session are still fresh in my mind. I think when the image you see in the mind's eye is fresh, you can better process the image to match that.
