I decided to do a self portrait after recieving my silk dress from China, and during editing I accidentally put to much contrast on it, but looked at it for a minute and decided I liked it. Tell me your thoughts...thanks....

Pretty nice. I wonder how it would look with the dress desaturated so that a very little amount of color is showing. Mainly because chinese dresses are very ornate and the colors are very bright.

i tried that, something just didn't look right about it...and cuz the flowers are so detailed it is very very difficult to desaturate that. |

I would have you pose at an angle, not straight on, just maybe 30 degrees to the right. Head straight should be ok.

It might be worth posting the original and inviting people to have a play with it to see what they can come up with.

Here is the original...
when i edited it, I smoothed out my sides and took the glare off the dress as much as possible.

After a quick 10mins I came up with this:
Although to be honest I think that I prefer your version :)

It's a general rule that the camera, if placed dead center to the subject, should not be physically placed lower than the shoulders (unless it's far enough). This creates a Keystoning effect which distorts the body just enough to make the image feel "bizzare".
I like the overex Idea but I really think the compo is suffering here. |

Interesting editing. I agree with the comment about taking from an angle. Maybe a side view, or a silhouette, highlighting your features. A lamp at an angle casting light on one side of the face could be good too.

This is what I came up with using virtual photographer and some dodge and burn.

The shot itself is weak, so editing will not solve the problem. |

sorry, crazy, but i have to agree with gil. your shot is too much of a mugshot. you might want to take a look at some of these, then reshoot, then bring it back for comments. |

hey crazycrystal! Beautiful dress!!!! I just love Asian fabrics and design. It's not a great shot (sorry) but my one big tip is that the camera is obviously below you, not eye level. I suggest shooting from either eye level or higher..lower is trouble! (see Gil P's comments). Shooting from below much of the time can be crazy-unflattering. |

yeah i know the shot was weak, but I don't have a tripod and i had to mount it ontop of the box my camera came in on top of my entertaiment center. It was a quick shot more to see what I looked like in the dress from a camera view. I am thinking of trying this shot again at a later date, possibly have someone else shoot it..not sure..gotta love those self timers..
Thanks for trying ya'll.
