I've been using my 35mm f/2 as a walk around lens for some time now, but it was damaged while shooting last weekend. I haven't kept up with the latest lenses on the market, so I'm curious what other options might be out there now. I am ok with a 'standard' prime as many great photographers accomplished far more than me with only a 'standard' lens. A zoom, nothing slower than a f/2.8, might be ok too depending on the price.
Thanks in advance for any advice

28mm 2.8 is only $160.00 - great lens, but I'm dreaming about the 35mm 1.4L these days
until then, the 28 is great
(or you could just get another 35mm 2 |

Ya, I was about to order another 35mm f/2 and then thought I should see what other options are out there now. I like the 35mm f/2 a lot, but it's a little noisy (no USM). The 28 would be a good option too.

id go for a 50 or 85 mm personally if u dont want a zoom. anything thats wide but not like super wide looks kinda bleh to me. It just my own taste, i love wide angle shots but usualy like 20mm or less. 50 and 85 are kinda long but you can do a lot with them. |

You might be able to find a used Canon 17-35 2.8 for a decent price if you look around. It's not as sharp as the 16-35 2.8 but it's cheaper since it's not in production anymore.

Yet another option is the newly released Sigma 30mm f/1.4. Although it is made for APS-sensor cams (smaller image circle), it has an EF mount so it does work on the 10D, AFAIK (I don't own it). It may be hard to get in the near term, though; it's generated a lot of interest. The 30mm focal length provides almost a perfect "50mm equivalent" lens for APS cams.

Now that sounds interesting... off to the Sigma site to take a look!
