Alrighty, I'm looking into getting a camera of my own for my birthday on Monday. I'm going to be paying for half of it so although I want a *good price* I want quality also. I ADORE the Canon EOS 20D that I use now, and although I probably won't get the same quality, I was hoping you guys could help me figure out a SLR under $1000 (body) that's about on the same lines.
What it seems to come down to is the Nikon D70 and the Canon Rebel 350 xt, but I'm open to anything. Any feedback?
Also, what do you think about the Nikon D100? My uncle might look into selling his to me, but I'd rather pay a couple hundred more for better quality and something new - if that seems like a smart idea.
This would really help me out, thanks!

What is it about the 20D that you like?

I am guessing the Canon 20D isn't yours? I say get that if it isn't. I have the 10D and love it. Waiting for the 30D if it ever comes out. Figured I can't afford to get a new one every time it comes out. Good luck. Its a big choice...

I have found that Canon is better than Nikon when you get creative with lighting etc. Nikon shows too much grain too early in the ISO range. Canon much clearer. Unless you do alot of infrared, then canon cant help unless you pull it apart and remove the IR filter itself. |

If you like the 20D and money is a factor, then the XT might be a good choice. Image wise, pretty much idenitcal to the 20D. If that's too much then perhaps the 300D? The Nikon D70 is a good choice as well. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the above. You'll have to do a performance/features vs. cost analysis and make a decision that best fits you. If you can, I think the 20D would be your best option.

Yeah, the 20D is my Father's (but I'm the one who uses, he he he). I like how user friendly I, a VERY inexperienced digital photographer, found it to figure out all the different settings and wow, the quality blew me away. I like the feel and hold of it also. But, seriously, I can't stress the embarrassing factor of me being incredibly nieve more. When I picked up the 20D after we got it, all I did was play with it not knowing a single thing I was doing and kind of figured things out. I can use the 20D pretty much whenever I want (right now, it's just the weekends since I'm in Salt Lake going to school), but my dad and I are going on some photo trips this summer and I don't want to get the exact same thing as his- not that I can afford it anyway. (He got his for a DEAL!)
Thank you guys so much for the feedback - the more the better! :)
