This fella showed up in the horse pasture around the same time I did. Unfortunately, so did the German Shepherd, and chased the raccoon right up the tree.

Took this shot hand-held at 420mm zoom (max end of my Z3). Have to love the IS on this camera! ;^)

What?! Nobody likes raccoons? Posted this prior to dinner, went out cut some grass, and .... hmmmm.

Isn't he cute? ;^)

Raccoons are the best little animals on earth, or at least neck and neck with wolves.

Their paws are velvety soft. I had one for a pet when I was a kid (for a day - then Mom came home!)...on the way to the nature center to drop it off it was roaming around the front seat, hanging onto the steering wheel, trying to climb up on the dashboard. ;^) And Mom was worried it was going to climb the curtains or something. Sheesh...He-he.

"What funny little birds, they have no wings..."

Good pics, G2BaD. We have lots of them around our house. I trapped one in my greenhouse back in 1998 and he just went nuts climbing up the walls and on the rafters while I ran and got my digital camera (Kodak DC-40, my first):

And in 2002 (Nikon Coolpix 990), this critter scared the crap out of me as I walked out my office door and looked up:

Also got some of a mama and the twins in 2003:

She gaurded the tree and eventually told them kids to come down from there!

Good stuff. :)

Better stay out of the BAMBI thread. :-)

Ken - I guess you DO! Cool to have those pics - even cooler to be able to find them after 3 years! ;^)

For me, this was only the second daylight sighting of a raccoon around here. I know we have plenty but I think the dogs keep them scared off (three dogs). I almost entered a photo of raccoon tracks for the "Naturally Framed" challenge - there are plenty of tracks at the stream running thru the wooded ravine behind our house.

Anyhow...enough babbling, thanks for sharing your raccoon photos. Keep smiling! ;^)
