Pretty much as the title states... does anyone know of any free software that would make a movie from a load of stills? I would preferably point it to the directory with all the photos, it would then throw a movie together from them all based on alphabetical order with a specified framerate.
Thanks! |

Windows XP shipped with Windows Movie Maker, which is free. As with all free things they are limited in features. But hey it is free!

How does that work? Can you point it to a directory of still images and make it produce a movie easily? How do I do that? |

I believe you can download a free month trial of premiere pro with all the bells & whistles. |

Open Windows Movie Maker, right click on the pane to the right of collections. Create a new collection. Then right click, Select Import, then select all or how ever many you want. And then finish. It will bring them in to the collection. Then drag the new collection folder on the right, down to the film bar. And it will place everything in the folder on the timeline. You can edit times by hitting timeline button above the + icon.

You can do this as well, I don't remember if it exports video or not. It will allow you to select a folder and import the stills. you can then drag them all to the time line.

unFreez ( //www.whitsoftdev.com/unfreez/ ) is a useful application for making GIF movies. Its a small/simple and free app, you can change frame rate, but not much else. I find useful for time-lapse movies. |

not sure if you are mac or windows guy, but iPhoto and iMovie on the mac can both crunch a collection of photos into a movie. These are bundled free with some macs.

ps can be used to make layers with different pics than you can transfer it to imageready & make a flash movie out of it. that is if you are using ps & image ready

I created a timelapse view once using 10,000+ still JPGs. I found that a lot of software, even commercial would fail (adobe premeire starts to flake if you load more than 500-1000 files at once).
I ended up using VideoMach //www.gromada.com/ to create a video from stills (I used the shareware version many years ago, not sure if it's still mostly free or not)
Then I used TMPGENC //www.tmpgenc.net/e_main.html to compress the video for use on a DVD.

I have noticed that premiere 6.5 starts bogging down as well. Not sure on premiere pro. Also of note I have seen that premiere 6.5 likes BMP's instead of JPG's a lot better.

VideoMach looks more like the thing I'm after. I've used TMPGENC before when copying DVDs. Thanks |

Thanks Buzzmom for the response... it's more of a film effect I'm after though rather than a slideshow.

Can you create a movie with the free player? Didn't think that was possible. |

If you have Nero...you can create a slideshow of images and adjust the time the photo is shown on the timeline bar. VERY easy to do, and you can get a free download on many sites. |

i'vd made a movie of pix before on movie maker. It
s super easy to use. lemme see if I can upload one to my site for you to check out.
I'll be back!
okee,
I'm back!
if you upload all the pics into a collection (it can load in order if they are sorted in order) you can then select all the pix & then just drag 'em onto the picture frames on the bottom. You can add titles if you choose or just designate a tranistion between all the shots (or change it up as you go along. you'll have to do this manually).
You can also drag an mp3 or sumin' in there to play a song or two as you view the pix. I did something very similar here.
didnt have a lot of time to resize the video for the web so it may take a minute (depending on ur internet speed) to dload.
lemme know what you think & if ya need anymore help.
peace
ROOSTER!

I have always used Virtualdub, available free at www.virtualdub.org. Easy to learn and very intuitive. Even permits zooming and panning in your still images with the appropriate free plugins.
