Are you sure you have enough lights for the Darkness challenge? I'd pick up a couple more just to be safe. ;-) |

Geesh, we just used my two B800's for a wedding (in a large church)this weekend and had the power turned down to about a 1/16th. What the heck you need that much light for?
Congrats on the Bees though, you'll love them.

Oh, I figured he was just going for as much power as possible so the first shot would trigger a statewide blackout. |

Hey, I got abducted too. Mine are only B800's. I just tried them out in the garage and I'm in a panic. I don't know what the heck I'm doing. I need a cheat sheet or something. I've got a little mini fashion show on Saturday morning and I can't get in to test the lights before hand. HELP
I've been reading my camera manual, flash manual, bees manual, photo lighting tips...my little brain's so full right now it won't function. |

The down and dirty approach: Set your Bees to about 1/4 power. Put your camera on manual, with an aperture of f/10 or so, and a shutter speed of 1/160. Take a test shot and look at your histogram. Adjust the aperture (or your lights' power) up or down until the exposure comes out right.

I got my B400s today but they sent me the medium softboxes instead of the large ones I paid for. Hopefully they will get me the correct ones soon.

Will the lightmeter solve all my problems or create more? I don't know if I can handle one more manual. ;( |

except for a lightmeter which will solve your problems. you could learn guidenumbers distances and all that stuff. but let me tell you i wish i had a lightmeter last weekend, i jjust picked up a whole role of slides with my subject like 1-1.5 stops overexposed cuz i had to guess with my flash set up. |

Why didn't you check the histogram? I don't use a light meter, I have my rebel set to display the histogram immediately after taking, allowing me to retake it as soon as the adjustment is made. No need for light meter, here. |
