to actually put the score you're giving a picture into your comment? I've seen a few people doing this and have done so on a couple of ocassions myself, but then I've wondered if that would be okay?

I would love to see more people do that. So I would say good idea.

When I can completely put into words why I'm giving the score I do then I tend to put the score in the comment.

If I can't put my full reason into words then I don't put the score in. This only means that I can't fully explain what feel and not that I don't have justification.

edit: I am not always consistent so don't take my comments without scores as an incomplete explaination. Sometimes I'm just too lazy to hit an extra key.

yeah,I've been quite keen to do that, just wasn't sure if it was something that was allowed or even liked. Not sure why people hide themselves whist voting either.

yeah I can understand that reasoning. Think that's why I don't add it in all the time too (",)

I usually do this only if it's a 6 or higher.

There is nothing wrong with doing so. I find when someone leaves a comment and a score that it is an interesting insight into that person's process. I'm pretty sure I've gotten 'best picture I've ever seen - 7' that I find quite humorous. Some people may find high scores from photographers they particularly respect to be like getting a ribbon. On the other hand if you give out low scores and state as such then you'll likely be 'called out' on it etc.

I do it for some, not for others. Really depends. I am more likely to add a score if I feel the photographer might be scored low by others in a challenge due to a technique, a current challenge thread, or voter tastes.

I wouldn't mind adding a low score to a picture if I can convey properly why I'm giving that low a score, just sometimes, my photgraphic "speech" ie terms, doesn't sum it up though lol

Sometimes it doesnt matter if you eloquently explain why you are giving a low score or even if you offer a lot of advice. If the photographer thinks their image is the best ever they will often defend their image to their dying fingertips. Logic cannot often penetrate denial.

I have chosen to hide myself during voting and this has been a frequent debate here for a while. I can give you insight why I do so though. On the Cemetary Challenge I commented on every photo. I went in and made a comment that I was voting the first round and would come back to elaborate further. Well with this I received a lot of PM's from people telling me about their photo and was basically giving away which photo was theirs. Well good or not it broke the anonimity of this site during challenges and to curve this effort I have decided to hide myself during the voting process. It is not to keep you from pm'ing me your thoughts on a comment I left. Just if you want to further discuss it then I prefer you wait until voting has ended then I will discuss the matter with that person.

I used to always put the score in until I got lazy. I still gave them the score whether they realize it or not. Might as well be a man (er woman) and let them know what it was.

You choose whether to hide or not. It's in your preferences.

Moodville, yeah I guess you're right lol I know I would probably defend any of mine.

Rex, I can see why this is a good option now, thanks for explaining your reasoning behind it.

The VOTES are all anonymous, Lucas, but the COMMENTS are not unless you choose to put a "bag" over your head and remain hidden to the photographer until after voting is finished.

I try like heck to comment on any photo that a) Astounded Me, and b) was placed in the 4 and under category. When doing so, I want to let the artist know what I offered as a score because it is important to me to justify the thinking I had if I slammed an image into the lower ranks. It also allows the artist an insight as to where some of the lower scores may be coming from. If I low-balled your image I owe you a reason that may help you on the next challenge to be aware of what failed on this one.

Those critiques also allowsme to try and keep those same things in mind when I decide what works and doesn't on my own images.

Sometimes I put the score in and sometimes I don't just depends on if I remember or not. Personally I like it and SC might consider this as another option much like the bag idea. I mostly do it on challenges I haven't entered.
