Which once again proves the point that in the end, the Whole community of DPC decides what is Blue Entry or Brown. If we all voted the same way...well, it would be kinda creepy.

Ok I surrender! I don't understand the meter of judment of the people. I could shot anything and give a name that satisfies the topic of the decision. It was simple, I would have made little hard work. mhhh.... |

Another valid reason for scoring such an "image" high. |

This thread is another of many, many examples at DPC showing that some of us take the challenge topics way to seriously.

Isn't it only human to care about something you've put time, thought and effort into? |

the image finished 271..
do you still need to go and trash it some more??
give it a rest
Because images like this are easy identifiable in style or purpose you can rant about it, but it equals to saying: the last 10 images of every challenge should be DQ or ignored
Then lets make it the last 20, or should we only keep the first 10 :))

While the white picture doesn't do much for me, what did surprise me was that two of three winners were clearly not decisions. So much for sticking to the theme, eh? |

What I can't understand is how my decisions entry got 8-1's.
Is it really that bad?
It is times like these where I want to say goodbye and just leave and never come back.
Bye

I only pay attention to the positive votes. 30 people may give me a 1 but if one person likes it enough to give me a 9 or 10 and I've provoked comments, its a good day. I watched my step daughter snap a photo without looking, enter it and beat every one of my scores so I can't take it too seriously. I also realize that I'm not going to have a high scorer/comment generator every time. Your work is good, stick around....

Seems to be you've both done quite well in this regard. Although Ken's words ring a bit truer to me in this case.

Nitin - Is that why you had your image pulled by request? In protest perhaps? Just curious...

I saw this thread and had to comment. I for one try to vote on effort. I would not have rated your first photo very high, because it did look to me like it was shot in a drunk. As a matter of fact, that is what I thought was being depicted in the picture. As to the ant, I think I was one that voted that one a little higher. The problem appears that most of the voters aren't voting on technical points, but rather on liking or disliking the image. On the suicide pics, I for one don't like the subject but I voted based on light, contrast, clarity, presentation and composition. The hari kari one I think I gave a 7 or 8 to because it was the best one of all the suicide pics. |

Instead of complaining so much why not put your effort in shooting for the next challenges???

I hope that you are joking about my pics - I certainly was trying (but prob failing) to poke fun slightly at the idea that voting should be on effort. My point was that no-one has any idea how much effort has gone into the photo when voting. If you were being serious (hard to tell on this faceless computer), I admire your honesty, but would question your vote on my ant - it really is not very good!
Hopefully my comment was not taken as a complaint - merely a slight, lighthearted, rejoinder to Ken who suggested that effort should be an important part of the voting decision (who knows, maybe the white square was a photo taken from space on a commissioned private spaceflight of a distant star with a specially constructed 30000mm lens...).

I saw this image and wonderd a bit about it. Passed on voting the first round. When I went back on first review I voted on it as it struck me differently and my whole feeling about it changed.
I am not so sure it took zero effort. Maybe less than some others, but zero?
On a diferent note, on my decisions entry I was left two comments I would like to respond to:
1. What does 'manky' mean?
2. I don't bite my fingernails.
