As you know, it's easy to fill up media cards when taking many photos on a trip! My husband just bought a laptop for school (which I'll use to put photos on when clearing my cards on vacation).
We really want a great laptop backpack. I tried on a lot of the Targus ones at CompUSA and the padding was so thin - terrible! The shoulder straps attached behind your neck, very uncomfortable! However, nobody seems to be carrying much else. I want to buy online, but want to know which ones you are all using and why you like them?
I am looking for a 17" screen laptop to fit in it, excellent cushioning on the back and shoulder straps, room for my husband's school supplies (a book, some pens, wallet, etc), and no attached strap behind our necks (like the Targus bags appear to have). I may also want to (occasionally - like on an airplane) put my camera in this (with the lenses off), so padding inside is a must!
Any suggestions?

I'm on the hunt right now, too, actually.
Ebags has a lot of good backpack choices, but I want to try mine on!
Good luck! |

I have a really nice Targus one that looks nothing like a laptop bag except the logo. So I unstitched it! It's also pretty reasonably padded and has lots of room for other stuff.

There is a nice school like backback that i got my girlfriend, nice padding and space. Holds the laptop in 2 different locations one double padded in side where books/folders can also go. Runs about $59.99 at BestBuy.. Great deal.
Also www.ebags.com usually has some nice deals.
www.macmall.com has great deals on apple products too.. including bags.. good luck.

FWIW, I have this one, it has great laptop protection and lots of space, as well as sturdy, large wheels so you can roll it too...
Ebags Router
I like it a lot for my laptop, but it's not a dual laptop/camera bag if that's what you were looking for. Here's the review I posted there (good for the bag, though I haven't flown with it yet, bad for ebags as a business):
"This is a nice, but LARGE and heavy bag. It appears to be too big to fit under an airline seat (though I have yet to travel with it). The handle appears study, and the wheels roll nicely. In general, it's very well designed, with several nice convenient externally accessible compartments, and a very well padded computer compartment. My experience at eBags was ok, though I doubt I would shop at eBags again due to their misleading sales practices. If there's a sale, and you have a 20% off coupon, you won't get it the same time as the sale, even if your 20% off coupon says "AN EXTRA 20% OFF". In another instance where I tried to shop here, we had a $10 off coupon from Dannon yogurt, but I could not use it because it would cost me more than the regular sale price (and there are often sales.) So coupons for eBags.com are pretty much worthless." |

The Brenthaven makes a toshiba backpack version. Fits a 17" screen. Looks like my backpack that I have, I think that I got mine at BestBuy, but that was close to 3 years ago.

I have the Delsay pro 33 backpack. It holds my iBook in a protective compartment sepeate than the camera equipment. Besides the laptop mine holds 2 slrs, 2 flashes, 5 lenses (including a 135-400), ext tubes, etc.etc. I've had it for a liitle over a year now and love it. I just figured out last month that there is a built-in raincover for adverse weather.
If you are interested I'll shoot a photo of it when I get home from work |

This is my backpack: //www.tombihn.com/page/001/PROD/100/TB0104
I also added the Monolith sleeve for my PowerBook. This backpack holds an INSANE amount of stuff and it's build like a tank. I can show it to you one day if you'd like to see it.
PS: Get the Monolith size 1 sleeve for a 17" laptop. That's what I have in black.

I've had this one for about 3 years now and I love it! It has the laptop compartment plus the backpack part has removable racks to organize your different stuff. It is extremely comfortable, and is the first and only backpack endorsed by the World Chiropractic Alliance. TONS of extra compartments for other things as well. I highly reccomend this one (for what it's worth). Here's a link to some info on it: Rakgear
edit: I'm not 100% sure that it will fit a 17" laptop though, mine is a 15" and there's room to spare.
