I've never tried it - although I hear that it's okay.. but the chromatic abberation is supposedly pretty bad at times, as well as some softness when at wide angles. I would suggest checking out some reviews on a variety of sites in order to form your own (pre-emptive?) opinion on it.

I have this lens and I'm very happy. Much better than the 18-55 kit lens. The reviews I read indicate that it is almost a "L" if not for the small sensor and low F number. This is the lens I have on my camera 90+%.

I love this lens. I have this and the 70-200 f4 L. I rarely take off the 17-85. I do mostly landscapes, and it is great for this purpose. It does have some barell distortion at the wide end, but I think a good wide should have a little for what I do. I love this lens, and for walking around I can't imgine a better lens.

Great minds thinks alike, (fools seldom differ).... You and I have the same kit!!!! (17-85, 70-200 F4, 50 1.8) What's next on your list? I'm thinking the EF-S 10-22.

it is funny, that is really what I have next on my list!!! I want something a little wider. And i didn't mention my 50mm. It is weird that our equipment is so similar. I love my 17-85.

What do you use to carry your kit? I have the Lowepro Orion backpack. It was good until I added the 70-200. |

I use the lowepro minitrekker aw. great backpack. a little cumbersome since I carry it with me everywhere I go, but it has lots of space for all my stuff. I love that it has a place to strap your tripod on it. Since i do so much hiking to take pics, that really helps. I wish it had a specific place for a bottle of water though.

Far superior to the 18-55 lens...although there is a bit of distortion and softness at full wide angle.
Very sharp and crisp in mid range and the IS setting allows a lot of scope in low light situations.
These are some shots taken with this lens on the 20D.

I Have 2 0f the three, and the same camera. The 70-200 F4 L is next on my list.
Love the lens. It is a good compromise for what I need.
1. Good wide angle
2. Good range.
3. Fast focus.
4. Good build quality
5. Robust
6. IS for low light.
7. Good images
I Hate changing lenses in the field as I am always afraid I will drop something. |
