My rating for one of the current challenge was 5.2015 with 268 votes. With 269 votes (one extra) it jumped to 5.2230. Which means that I should have got rating of 10.985 in a single vote**? Is it possible? I dont mind getting close to 11 though :)

**Simple math :

5.2015*268 = 1394.002
5.2230*269 = 1404.987
Diff made by one vote (269-268=1) is 1404.987 - 1394.002 = 10.985

well, sometimes someone can change their vote from say a 6 to a 7 or 8

edit: you're too quick ;)

Someone bumped up there vote between your update times. When a person bumps up or down a vote [i.e. a 5 to a 6] it will not be counted as another vote. Only the original vote counts in the "vote cast" column.

If this is the case...then why do people bother voting and then going back to either vote up or down after taking more time to view the photo? This would make going back later totally useless?

In the Framed challenge for example. I voted on about 1/2 of them last night. I gave out no 10s, but many 9s and 8s. I will go back through those and bump some up to 10. Why? Since i can't sit thhrough voting all 220+ at one time (not enough time at one time) my attitude and whatnot may change. Also, the first great pic is a 10. then you see 8 more great shots. I don't want to give out 9 10s. 2 or 3 is usually my max, as there can be only one 'best' photo and that gets my 10.

other folks (and me at one time) used 1s or 10s as placeholders for pics that we want to go back and look at in more depth.

I think what he means is if you have 10 votes and someone changes one of those 10 to something else, your average may be different but you still have 10 votes. A change in one of those 10 votes would not give you 11 votes.

What I was trying to find out...was if only the first vote counts..then if you give someone a 5 then later raise it to a 8 only the 5 will count since it is the original vote. From the statement I quoted...this would be true since they said only the first vote counts. This would eliminate the 8 score if what was said is factual, since it was not the first score. Hope this explains how I read the statement.

It does explain how you read the statement but not how it actually works. Whatever your final vote is is what is counted. Actual vote values can change but your vote is not counted more than once in the tally of votes.
