The comments and votes seem contridictory. Any ideas why?

I was out all week, so didn't vote on this challenge. But if I had, I would have voted with the pack. IMO, the subject is kind of uninteresting, flat, and the white background didn't work. Just my thoughts.

I think stdavidson's is a good explanation. Other than that, it may be simply that most people didn't consider it "beautiful".

Hi cindi,
I think it met the challenge.
For me the composition was weak.
Too orderly, placed, lined up.
Your lighting and focus were fine.
It's not bad just overwhelmed by many other landscapes, flowers, etc. I think in these large challenges something really has to pop with a strong central subject that knocks the socks off the voters. :) |

"Beauty is very hard to describe, but we all know it when we see it. Take a photo that makes the viewer say "that's beautiful."
No where in this discription does this say or infer the photographing of beauty products. Also, the image is oversharpened and almost looks as if it's a scanned image.

Personally the photo may have gotten a 5 from me because it looks oversharpened and the hotspots are very distracting. It is however an interest and unique interpretation for that particular challenge but the photo itself looks kinda poorly done. The setup/makeup (no pun intended) is very well thought up but again the crispness of the photo just isn't there.

the image is a little noisy, the subject maybe a little too obvious, but overall not bad.
don't feel so bad, i almost snagged a brown ribbon with this entry... i didn't spend any time on it, but wow, what a beating it took!

| Yep, a decent photo, technically good, but lacking in punch or "wow." A good, utilitarian photo is always going to score in the average range, as yours did. |

When I look at the photo, I don't say 'wow, that's beautiful'. Now, the person that the makeup might be going on might have been a better choice (although sometimes no makeup is better) I don't sit in my bathroom and say 'gee. my lipstick sure is beautiful sitting there on the sink'. It's much more beautiful on my lips.

Just a few things that I think hurt your score:
1. The layout was not appealing. A straight line perpendicular to the eye when laying out products does not sale on a 2D image.
2. The challenge was an "advanced editing" challenge and you did not take advantage of spot editing some areas that could of used it.
3. You stepped out of the box a little, which is good, by showing us products that can make a pretty person beautiful but you did not sale the product.
Those are just some of my feelings on the picture. Not a bad picture and could of been a lot better with a better positioning of products and using a little more of the tools that advanced editing allows.
