I think one of the hardest shots to get at a wedding is a good unique shot of the rings. I've done the hands with rings over the bouquet and I've also seen the rings tucked down in a flower arrangement, which looks pretty cool.

Care to share your ideas and examples if you have them? I'm trying to jump-start my brain for tonight.

Thanks!

(Off to run errands for a bit)

I posted this in an earlier wedding thread so you may have already seen it but this is the photo of our rings from my wedding and I kind of dig it.

I think this is a lovely way to show the rings, I was only married just over 2 years and my photographer chose to do the hands over the flowers. I was really pleased with it, as my bouquet was yellows and whites.
But think the bible would of been just as nice, it's also about the two hands together as well as the showing of the rings, I think.

Very nice shot... although I have to wonder why the groom couldn't be bothered to wash under his fingernails for his wedding... bleech!

Here's one from yesterday. After I looked at it on the computer, I wished I had turned her ring in towards me!

And this one is from last week:

Thanks for the posts everyone.

I think we got some good ones tonight. I'll post them later after I have a chance to edit. Need to relax for awhile, right now. Was at the church running for about 7 hours straight.

If anybody else has different examples, feel free to post them.

This thread is about 13 hours late for me. BUT, I'll know next time.

Just in case this ever happens to you (and I know of situations like this, so maybe it is not as uncommon as I originally thought).

If, in the event, the groom is missing part of his left thumb, he may be hesitant to take this shot. Simply have him tuck his thumb (or what there is of it), under the bride's hand -- so that his hand is over her's sort of. That way, you still get a nice hand shot, but without causing him embarrassment.

Like I said, I thought this was a "unique" situation, as my older brother lost his left thumb in a horse accident when he was eight. Because of how the photographer handled it at his wedding, I was able to work around the groom today (who also only had part of his left thumb) But hey, maybe they are the only two men like that.

Don't have any online I can post, but I've done 'on the bouquet, on a velvet cushion, and against the bridal dress if it's a suitable 'poofy' one.. :-).

None of them are unique though...

To light them I use a diffuser (one of the wire edged springy ones) over the rings for 'general' light, and the flash -2 stops for 'highights' shot into a pocket bounce doofer. (Get someone else to hold the diffuser!)

For indoor/night shots I use the same diffuser, but shoot the flash into it, and use a small flash card to get the highlights.

The first time I did 'ring' shots I didn't take enough or any in different 'poses' and got no really nice images without lots of editing. Large rocks can be a pain for shooting, so now days I always take a few, from slightly different angles, so that I know I've got one without a huge blown out hilight on top of the stone. ;-).

Cheers, Me.

I think rings in a champagne class might be unique. I also saw the cutest picture the other day (off subject) of a new born baby holding both parents rings, tied with ribbon, in her itty bitty hand. What a cute idea.

No one mentioned doing the rings on the hood of a car:

This is a normal thing here in Belarus, they put these wedding rings on the hood of the car as you drive around town to the different places.

Here's the traditional shot. I'm not a wedding photographer, but they had NO photographer, and I was there with my Minolta 7i, which looked a little bigger, so they asked me to take a few shots for them. I don't think it turned out too bad.

Omigosh! I totally didn't notice that until now. Nasty.

From now on I will NEVER FORGET to look at people's fingernails before I photograph their hands. Thanks for pointing it out. :-D

Interesting that they are wearing the rings on their right hands.
