Do these exist? I was just thinking what a cunning plan it would be to have a special attachment that fixed onto your camera with a function that would allow you to copy your images to a specified computer at a remote location.

That way you could have a laptop as a base as you travelled around and have the option of getting a few shots, and remotely exporting them to your PC without having to take out the CF card, plug anything in etc.

Anyone ever heard of these?

You can buy a wireless TX for the Canons ... Bluetooth is useless for photos: range is limited to about 20m maximum, and it is S L O W

Very cool. A little superfluous but then again, most photography equipment is ;)

Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E1 for EOS-1Ds Mark II and the EOS-1D Mark I and I believe it may work for the 20D.

in the studio I use the WFT-E1 Canon dedicated Wifi Transmitter, I do not know that it fits on the 350D....and it's a bit pricy 1600$ canadian. but nothing else will work on your camera since you need to be able to read/transmitt the files.

Oh, and trust me, when you have editors, produkt managers, ,marketing agents standing 25' away from you all "needing" to see the image right away... Wifi transmitters are not superfluous.

It is a little for an amateur such as myself. I never intended to buy anything of the sort anyway, the thought just occurred to me while I was out in the garden this morning, thinking how handy it would be to be able to take shots around the house (particularly in the cheap, homemade studio) and transfer straight to PC :)

well your not the only one that has had that idea! the insulting part of this is that the Same technology exists for the Nikon users...and it's half the price.

I know this site is sort of focused on Canon but I believe Nikon was the pioneer, and is still the leader, in wireless transmission from a digicam. They are now on their second generation with the WT-2A transmitter that works with the D2Hs and the D2X. It's the fastest and least expensive alternative currently available. The WT-2A sells for a thousand dollars less than the Canon model at $599 at B&H. The earlier WT-1A is still avalable and it also works on the newest cameras, and sells for only $429.

yes they were the first...BUT the Canon one is much faster and will fit ALL of the Eos-1 line since it's self powered...which is a big problem for the Nikon one right now. The price differential is very hard to explain....but that's what you get when you go Eos-1

What makes you say the Canon WFT-E1 is faster that the Nikon WT-2A? Am I missing something? They both operate on the same 802.11g standard.

Because of something it as something to do with the software which uploads the photos, the Canon "system" is about 50% faster.

Of course there is the issue of the file size, since a 1dsMkII file is heavier than a D2x file that means that it's actualy even faster.

How did you learn that? Have you used either or both of the systems? Did you read that somewhere? Can you provide a link? I am trying to keep up do date on this issue. I haven't used either but from what I've read, the Nikon was supposed to be the faster.

Hey...I can do better than a link. I use the Canon system everyday and my collegue as a D2x with the Nikon one...both on the same Hub both on the same Machine.

The issue is almost always the software, I have larger files so they are longer to transmit but at the computer end, the softwares don't react as fast. Mind you in the studio we don't snap away (1 shot every 5secs about) so it's never a real problem for either.
