Are you definitely going? If so, one of us will get you a ticket and you can pay us back. You just want a single day ticket, right? No season pass?

Ok, well I finally stopped contemplating and got the Sigma 50-500mm in the new DG version. Hopefully, I'll be able to try it out before taking it to the zoo. I should have it just before Saturday. I guess I'll have to bring a few more lenses and a tripod as well for the night shots as well.
Arie, can you tell us more about the sunset local? Is it photogenic or should we go somewhere else, I don't mind driving to a prettier site if we're gonna shoot sunsets.
I'll bring my two walkie talkies as will Chuck, I guess.
Over and Out.

I am definitely going unless I'm still sick by then which means I'll have a lot bigger problems to worry about. :) Katy will still be on the east coast on Saturday so I'll need just one ticket and not a season pass.

I am sure you've been up there. It's the LA Basin overlook from Mulholland Drive. I am not sure what you mean by scenic, but I think it's pretty cool. I've never been up there at sunset. I think sunrise might be nice too, but I am not willing to get up that early anytime soon.

Does anyone else have an annual pass? I have one, and a few extra free guest passes we can use... only thing I think is that I can only use one guest pass with my season pass. If someone else also has a season pass, we can use the other guest passes as well.

I have 4 more files to upload. Uhhhhh.
I also don't think it's the lens that count, I think it's more the photographic eye. Having Rawshooter helps a lot too.
Almost all of the pics were taken with the kit, 28-135IS, and Sigma 70-300, yup, consumer grade lens. I only have a few with the Tokina or the L lens.

I like the way the Digma sounds :).. So how much did that set you back? What are some noticeable difference between the DG and the old one?

I got it from an eBay store called the camera box for $895 plus $18 for UPS 3 day shipping. They told me it's the DG version, so I saved about $100 compared to most shops (if they even have them in stock). A funny thing about these dopes that buy used lenses on eBay is that a used older version sold on the same day for $901 plus $18 for std shipping. What dope bought a used older version with no warranty for more money than a new one, I'll never know.
I do buy filters on eBay b/c I don't believe one brand name's UV/CPL makes a VISIBLE difference on a print. So I buy the cheapest name brand filters from eBay sellers. Quite cheap, paid $19.95 each for a 86mm uv and a 72mm CPL from S&W (a US glass filter maker).
The DG is mostly a marketing gimmick to sell lens to new dSLR buyers. Just a different coating on the last lens element to improve flare if the lens/camera combo wasn't working well with the non DG setup. The only cosmetic difference is the "DG" on the lens and a ribbed ring/focus ring vs. granade style checkering on the non DG version. As far as I know, I've never heard of such problems with a Reble/20D having flares/ghosting so I doubt it makes any difference.
Now that these DG Bigmas came out, all Bigma prices jumped about $100 or more. Oh well, I needs me bigma now, so I gets me bigma now.

Hey Tom i was flipping through your pasadena photos and i noticed a face in the night version of the bridge just to the right of the light.
Looks like someone with someone screaming or just with the mouth open. its photo CRW_1976. If you send me a jpb version i can highlight it and send it back if you don't see it..

I think I see what you are talking about, it looks like Mr. Bill, that claymation character. It's just "ghosting" from the light. Maybe I should have taken off the UV filter.

Yep,
That's the ghost alright.
I'm selling my sigma 70-300 to my collegue as I've too many lenses now and will be switching the multi coated UV filter on the Sigma in exchange for a single coated UV filter which is currently on the kit lens (which I used to take this picture).
My Digma arrives on Thursday, in time for the Zoo.
I also thought about selling my Canon 55-200mm and the kit 18-55mm lens and buying a Tamron 17-35mm or the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 but will hold off on that for now.

What lenses will that leave you with? after selling the sigma 70-300 and/or canon 55-200 and/or kit lens?
