use your hands or the provided tongs to get rolls out of the bins?

Personally I use the tongs and never take a roll from the top of the bin. You don't know who has touched it and when the last time they picked their nose was or some other such grossness.

Also, what I really wanted to ask, was if you have ever photographed while in a grocery store?

ROFL! I saw that little nosepicker in your other thread and was about to steal it for this one! :P

As to the topic question - I buy the pre-packaged stuff cuz you know nobody's done anything disgusting to those! ;-)

I don't get rolls from the grocery for non-related hygenic purposes. I have never taken photographs in a grocery store, but would have no aversion to such a task.

LMAO at the nose picker, umm too many carbs in those rolls.

Our local Albertson store has a sign on the door that says:"NO photography allowed inside the store", but just the other day I was very tempted because they were selling these cute and TINY bell peppers (capsicums for our english speaking friends *g*).

They were about the size of a plum, looked like toy minatures, and cost TWO DOLLARS each !!!!!!!!!!

I burst out laughing at the price and seriously considered coming back with my camera, but I didn't 'cause I'm such a good girl!

Good reason to get a tiny point&shoot!

Uh huh. You just have violaçãodapolíticadalojadomantimentophobia. (Fear of getting caught violating grocery store policies). :P

Out of courtesy to other customers I always use tongs or bakery paper to handle the rolls.

The supermarket at which I shop has a no photography policy clearly posted on the front doors, which I abide by. If it weren't for that, it might be fair game, especially with an appropriate challenge.

You eat brussel sprouts and yet you are worried about grossness from someones hands? Man, you need to get your priorities straight! ;-)

I feel every single roll in order to get the softest one. Then I bring them to my nose and take a big wiff. Often times I sneeze and look around to make sure no one see's me putting it back in the bin. I then nibble the edges of them all to see which has the best salt to butter ratio. Finally I narrow it down to 2. Then I snap photos of each and whichever is more photo friendly i purchase.

Thanks for asking!

Yes. I have lots of other little 'quirks' that if I ever get comfortable enough around here I will probably let them slip out as well. I am sure, based on past experience, you will all get, if nothing else, some good, hearty, chuckles.

Just make sure you put a warning in the thread topic like the Brussel Sprout thread. ;-)

No problem.

Now I wonder if the grocery store I go to will let you photograph in it. I have always wanted to do a photo shoot in a grocery store. Not with customers, just products.

EDIT: removed dumb placement of an extra I

I frequently photograph at the grocerystore, usually at the biggest one in the country, the store is about 10.000sq.m. (107.600 sq.ft.)

and they have about 20 tons of fruits and vegetables there, about 3000 different kinds, you can really have fun rearranging the fruits and veggies for a photoshoot, and the store clerks just clean up after the shoot :)

never had any problems, just ask the manager of the department first, then there will be no hazzle, and they always give permission for the shoot, as long as it's not rush hour :)

If you knew the things I knew about what goes on in the back of restaurants etc. You would be happy to only have your rolls fondled;)

I worked through two colleges as kitchen help, waiter, bus boy, cook, baker, you name it. I even prepared fruit plates for about 6 months. It was so boring. You couldn't even be a little creative. Everyhing had to be exactly as the chef wanted. They were ugly as hell. Everyone thought so but him.

Now I am definitely going to have to check my local market.
