I was interested in submitting photos to Shutterstock.com thanks to the thread about stock photograhpy & making money... However my question is, how long does it usually take for the photos you submit to be reviewed and accepted to the site?

Usually 1 day up to a week for approval. I usually submit smaller batches -- 2-6 photos -- not a huge amount at once, and it seems to typically take 2-3 days.

If you haven't already signed up with them, you should do it through someone's referrer link, so that they can get a commission on your sales as well -- here's mine if you don't have anyone else in mind:

Possible delay on weekends and holidays.

Thankyou,

I was worried that no one was going to reply, so I signed up for the account and submitted my images. Then I got the answer in the e-mail... Sorry about that... I have a friend who is a photographer too, and If things work out and they do sign up I'll tell them to use your referrer link just for answering me.

I don't think it works after you've registered, but I guess you can ask. Thanks though : )

After you have some photos approved you should post a link to your gallery. Here's mine -- see if you can guess which is the most-frequently downloaded photo. For bonus points see if you can tell which photo was taken by my seven year-old son Isaac, and which were taken while driving on the freeway. : )

Part of the trick in having a high ratio of approved photos is thinking like a graphic designer, and evaluating whether a photo is useful as part of a larger work, and not so much as to whether it has exceptional artistic value on its own.

I'm going to go with the pediatric ear or eye exam photos? As for the one by your son, I have no idea yet. I'll have to look harder, many are pretty good.
