John - I like the B/W take on this capture. I also like your choice of framing where it looks like the bird is going to fly out of the photo.

Looks like you weren't too successful in "sneaking up" - two of them have totally left the swamp! (image 183906 and 183905 have been pulled)

Thanks for the "kudos" on the shot. The damn things move a bit fast and dont really care whether or not thy're in the correct position. Maybe next time, I also might place all the birds into a freezer for 5 minutes as it might help slow them down like others need to do when shooting bugs. =)

Is that for real? I know you're kidding about the birds, but do people REALLY do that with bugs? Clever if true. I usually just wander around and shoot em as I see em. ;^)

I love this shot, John and the choice of black and white treatment is very effective. The plain gray gradient background really draws the eye to the cattails and the bird. I also like the movement in the bird as it flies out of frame. well done.

Works with snakes too. Just watch any of the cable wildlife programs starring your favorite crazy reptile guru if you don't believe me.
