Things are SO busy in my life right now- we're moving from Atlanta to Texas for a few months to speed-process some immigration paperwork before moving to Australia.
We've pretty much sold every non essential item we own, my last day at work is June 10, on the 13th we pack a shipping container bound for Australia with whatever belongings we have left, escrow on our condo is set to close on the 15th, and our stay in Texas (3-4 months) should begin June 17. I'm trying to separate out what goes straight to Australia, what I can't live without in TX, and what will go to Goodwill.
I have to use up the ink in my Epson 1280 printer so I can sell it before we leave Atlanta, as well as scan in a bunch of negatives so I can sell the scanner. My husband just had his wisdom teeth pulled today, so I'm playing nurse. In the midst of all this we just returned from a quick vacation in Chicago with Kevin & Karine (who you will hear more about shortly), which was planned long before this whirlwind started.
Anyway..... every time we go on a trip, I end up making a gallery of photos on my website and sharing it with family and friends, with the intention of *someday* going through all these galleries and choosing the better images to go on my public website. I've amassed photos from South Texas, Chicago, the Renaissance Festival, Australia, Memphis, Savannah, New Orleans... As it turns out, my family and friends are starting to share my photo galleries with their family and friends, and I'm starting to hear a lot of positive feedback. From Angie, a friend of a friend:
"I couldn't find a way to purchase a print on your website of Kevin and Karine as kissing elves. It is so beautiful, I love your pictures.
**She's referring to this photo of friends of ours, taken a couple weeks ago at the Ren Fest:
"I've just received the album from your trip to Chicago, I never knew I wanted to visit until I saw your photos.
**Example:
"I wish I hadn't waited until it's time for you to leave Atlanta to ask for a portrait. Brad's (**her boyfriend, a good friend of ours) been asking for a framed photograph of me for his desk since he got his new job, three months ago, but the snapshots I have just won't do. Perhaps you'll have your camera with you on Saturday at Kevin & Karine's party and can catch something worthy? We'd also like to have a picture of you and Dean. Just let me know, thanks!"
The aforementioned Karine sent me this, about the Chicago gallery:
"I've already sent the link to all my friends and to my family. There's no way I can send them my pics knowing that they can get such an amazing glimpse of Chicago through your lens! Makes me want to get into it more and more! My dad is enthusiastic and says that (quote) I should congratulate you because some of your photos are really superb and show a lot of technique and a sharp eye, and you should be a professional!"
Lots of people in the last couple days have said that I should "go pro". As if I even know how I would do that!!! By the sounds of it, I shouldn't have trouble using up the ink in this printer, if people keep asking me for prints!
So like the title says, when it rains it pours. Boy am I looking forward to several months of unemployed boredom in Texas :)

Good luck on your move, and let us know how things go. |

Thanks! There's a bunch more photos from the Chicago trip in my portfolio, or here.
I think while I'm living in TX I'll have lots of time to practice my "craft". At the very least I'll be able to revamp my website. I'm just sorry I have to ship all my new studio equipment that I bought to Australia! We're only taking to TX what we can fit in our car, and it's already getting quite loaded....
By the way, anyone here want to buy an Epson 1280 photo printer or an Epson 3170 scanner? Both in great shape! :)

Thank you! I got some lovely shots while in Australia earlier this year, mostly of people. Several of them are in this thread.

Sounds like you could use a website with a shopping cart for your friends to order your photos. May want to think about that. |

Yep, redesigning my site from top to bottom is in my plans for my time in Texas. As it is the site is woefully out of date. I take photos faster than I can put them in my online galleries, since I hand code the entire site myself. One of my plans is to use content management system to make it simpler for me to update the site regularly. But I need the time to put it in place!
Man am I looking forward to being unemployed.

Someone said recently that unemployment can be a blessing. This is where I am and I am trying to turn it into a blessing. Good luck to you!!! Australia is my favorite place, that I would like to visit someday. Lucky you!! |

I'm always amazed, when I tell people where I'm going, how many of them say "I've always wanted to visit but never have." I guess they don't market it as well as Europe or something ;)
I got lucky in that my husband is Australian- makes going there to stay much easier! I have a feeling my photography will change radically once I'm there...
