I took these pics one day of our puppy, Casey. They were taken in late afternoon in the shade, no flash. Which one do you think is the best? Any advice on how to make them better or are they ok? I did the smart fix in photoshop Elem. 3 & unsharpmask & cropping. (oh & tried to take out the leash in the pics. I had to use it to keep her from getting away, etc.)

Pianomom isn't a member, so she can't load pictures or post thumbnails.

pianomom I was able to see them when you first posted. Now they are not available.

How can I get them to post? I've had this problem before. Sometimes they will show up and sometimes they won't.

Can you see them now? I tried Imagecave.

One problem that I had was the color of the grass. Is it ok? In picture 3 I thought it looked a little washed out in color but couldn't get it to look much better than what you see. Next time I'll try getting her to play with a toy or something, so she's not just "sitting there". (I had a hard enough time just getting her to look at me! lol)

Do you use a UV filter. The sun is pretty bright and seem to be washing out your colors.
Darling little pup.

No, I haven't used one. I need to get one. Guess that would help, huh? :) I was taking it in the shade & still wasn't happy with the colors. Off to the store....

you can do it on photobucket but you have to set your membership to allow the general public to be able to access them :-)

Feels to me like the background of spiky grass is competing a bit with the soft fur and look of the puppy. Try a plainer background, maybe one with some textures, but not the kind of busy-ness that the grass has.

I hadn't thought about the grass competing with her fur. That's a good idea. Thanks!

I agree with the last comment that the background is drawing too much attention away from the subject. Depending on what camera you have I would recommend decreasing the Depth of Field so that the dog stays in focus, but the background grass gently blurs together making a soft green backdrop. You can do this in a few basic ways: fast shutter speed plus small f-stop (large aperture), zoom all the way out to the end of optical zoom range, and possibly using macro mode on your camera depending on what the maximum focal distance is. It might be difficult to do these things satisfactorily with some normal point and shoot cameras that don't have many advanced controls.

Or, if the grass is yours, mow it. It could look ok then...

I like the puppy... good posing too. I think the grass should have been blurred a bit to soften the effect of spikes, but keep the texture.

Thanks for the comments. After looking at them again, I agree. I think they would look better with the background softer.
