For a very first website, this is well done. Man, you should have seen MY first website, it was a mess! :)
I can navigate this site fairly well, but some of the links don't go anywhere. The navigation is a little clunky, and takes away from the main subject- the photos. For a first site though, this is really good.
I would concentrate on getting each photo centered into the web page, and have links to the next photo somewhere on the side. The slideshow is ok, but not really necessary unless you've got a LOT of images.
I am also working on my own personal website. I hope to have something up soon.

Thanks, I haven't finished filling all the links out, and I'm having to work entirely from templates and stuff from my ISP, so I'm kinda limited right now. I'll be working on it off and on, so any comments will help make it better.

Yeah it doesn't make it any easier when you're constrained to templates. Well good luck with it. You're on the right track.

I think it has potential. I'd re-word this though:
"I am an amateur photographer based in the Metro-Detroit area. My main area of focus is nautre and abstract photography."
Probably something more like....
"I'm a Metro-Detroit area based photographer with an interest in nature and abstract photography."
Or
"I am a photographer in the Metro-Detroit area and I have a strong interest in nature and abstract photography."
Basically, I'd just leave out the 'amateur'. And use the correct spelling of 'nature'.
Other than that, I liked it pretty good. (Oh, and I agree with what nfessel said about the pics.)

Added some more pics and played around with it a little. There's still some empty links, (catalog page) but unfortunately that's part of the template, so there's not much I can do until I create a catalog page and link it to my main page. Also added a calendar which I will use to announce events, i.e. shows, trips, that sort of thing, and also added a mailing list for anyone that wants to be notified of changes and stuff.

quick update. I have moved the site and well COMPLETELY remade it, Doesn't have a lot of photos right now, but I'm working on it. It also doesn't have some of the features the other did, but oncec again, I'm working on it. As of now there are still a few links that don't quite seem right, but for the most part it's not too bad.
