I just received this comment in my PBase guest book:

"Judy I enjoy your photos very much. I was wondering if you would be interested in showing some of your work at the Butler institute in Youngstown. www.butlerart.com
if you are you can email me at k_platt@butlerart.com or call the museum at 330-743-1711 ext 216.

Ken Platt"

I am really surprised! At first glance it seems pretty much on the up and up. (I did look at the web site.) I sent an email asking a few questions about the request and what would be desired, expected, selections etc. One question I'd like to ask those of you here with experience: Does a showing usually cost the photographer anything? I have never done anything like that before. There's been no mention of money but I'd like to know ahead of time because if this is any type of scam, you can be sure it will come up.

I'm just really suspicious, I guess, because I would never imagine my photos overall to be considered for a showing. What do you guys think?

Anyone with experience in doing showings have any ideas for questions I should ask this guy? What to expect, etc?

I always ask about insurance...will your work be insured while there? During shipping if shipped? Who pays for shipping? It should cost you NOTHING to show your work...you should only have to pay for your framing, etc...also...ask this man if he is a curator and of which department...is there security...etc, etc. I personally will not lend any of my artwork to a place that will not insure it...and one other thing...get everything in writing...loan dates, when work will be displayed, when it will be returned. etc. I hope this helps a little.
