Something I've been wanting to do for two years on my system is to remove the preinstalled copy of Easy CD Creator 5 that Dell installed.
But I've left it alone, although I use Nero, because my bad experiences many years ago in upgrading Easy CD and having my CD drives disappear.
But yesterday, I did it anyway. Because ever since I've had this machine I've had trouble with the drive recognizing some CDs and DVDs. Yesterday, it didn't recognize a backup it just made. But my other machine did. So I decided to remove Easy CD since I know what a piece of junk it is. And as before, my CD drive disappeared.
So I just wanted to post the quick and easy solution for others here.
The automated way is at:
Automated fix for missing drives after removing Easy CD
Worked like a charm. And now I don't seem to have the problem with CDs being recognized. Easy CD proves once again what a piece of junk it is.

Gee I had Easy Creator and liked it on my Gateway.
This new Dell it came with Sonic and I'm not too fond of it.
I really wish these companies would stop loading on so much junk that is such a pita to remove. Worthless stuff.

This was exactly the reason I switched from Easy CD years ago and promised myself I would never install it again: every time they had an upgrade, they made you uninstall the previous version. And every time I uninstalled the previous version, there would be problems like this.
I've never had a problem when reinstalling Nero (and they don't make you uninstall). And while I've never thought the user interface of Nero was as smooth, Nero worked more reliably than Easy CD too in producing CDs and DVDs, which is what it's about! |

Just one more reason why my fav nickname for this software has been "Sleazy CD Creator" LOL.
