I'm using DOP upsizing from Digital Photo Outback, which is a free plugin for PS, it works very well for me.
I got better results with than GF, but I think QImage is the best for making print files.
Anyone have experience with these, and know how they measure up to the FM plugins? |

Originally posted by dswebb: moodville, yeah, that's exactly what someone else here said when looking at the samples from EddyG's site, that the GF ones looked like "watercolors". Could I ask you what % you were trying to scale yours up? I'm trying to get about 180% upsizing. If you were in that same ballpark, that would be most interesting to me. Thanks.

I tried it several times between 150% and 200%
I believe I used NI before using GF so I'll have to try it again without the NI step. I dont think I've ever got a non-noisy image at 100% out of my D100 :( |

Well, I tried Resize Pro from fredmiranda.com last night... No need to even TRY GF after I saw the results out of RP! Now, I only upsized stuff 175%-185%, (that's all I needed for now), but I did it on 30 different files, and the results ranged from very very good to AWESOME. I didn't even NeatImage first... And given the price difference of $30 vs $160, RP is just fine for me... :-)
I wonder if maybe GF performs better if you upsize like 500%-600% or so? Maybe that's it's claim to fame? Some time when I have the free time, I'll have to try RP out on a 600% upsize and see how it does. But offhand I don't know when I'd need such a large scaling...
Anyway, just to let everyone know my results. Thanks to everyone for their input!

There ya go. It's an automatic part of my print workflow now. Just crank it up and let it rip.

I just purchased Fred Miranda SiPro 2 and ran a comparison against Photoshop CS bicubic smooth and sharpen on several images enlarged to 200 and 300%.
There was no comparison!! Photoshop won hands down. Don't waste your money! Now I know why they don't offer a trial version!!

stb, you're reviving a thread from 2005!
I was a huge fan of Genuine Fractals BACK IN 2005 but these days, I use the inbuilt resizing tools within Lightroom and/ or Photoshop which are excellent.
