How many batteries do you have and how many is enough? Does it depend on the type of shooting you are planning or can you never be too prepared?
I have 4 olympus blm-1 batteries and just ordered 2 more. I just booked two wedding for July and want to make sure I am covered. Or is this over-kill?

I have the four rechargables in my c5050 but have 2 recharable lithium packs from DigiPower. I haven't been able to find these in stores lately but when I did it was from Wolf Camera. My Navy store recently found tons in their back room, I may buy them all and sell on ebay, but even though they are in the clearance isle they still are charging $60, a good investment in my book. I have had the first for almost 3 years and love it. This last sunday shooting on the chicago get-together I shot all day and barely used one up and I use the LCD all the time. Before that I had the regular recharables with 3 spare sets in the bag. |

Thanks for the info, but what is the difference between the litium packs and the olympus lithium battery?

By now I have too many ... I generally have one set of rechargables (NiMH) in the camera, a spare set in the camera bag, and an "emergency set" of alkalines in the camera bag as well, and I have a couple more sets of rechargables around as well. I don't use the camera's LCD much, so my batteries tend to outlast my memory card capacity by a factor of about three ... |

I only have 3 batteries for my DRebel. I plan on getting at least one more, but at the moment (with the battery pack) I can shoot all of my 864MB of memory many times over before I have to even think about recharging...

On my Rebel if i start with a fully charged batt i can do 600+ pics. I have a second batt, but have not had to change batts while out shooting.
For my previous camera, Fuji S602, it took 4 AA nimh. I got 200 or so pics on a set, so I had 6 sets. I had 1 set before i got hte camera, it came with 4 sets (i bought it used) and i bought 1 more set -
the AAs i still have , use them with my Metz flash. Supposedly you get 130 or so flashes on 1 charged set of 4 AAs. Perhaps they mean full pops, and i haven't needed that much light because i have shot 150 or so pics on a set of batts without issue.
If you are going to shoot a wedding you should have backups for everything (including a second camera, second flash, etc). So 3 or 4 times the required battery capacity for the number of shots you plan to take.

I have two 10Ds, each with a battery grip, 2 batteries per grip, 4 in total. I carry both cameras most times and rarely need to swap them. When I travel to far or remote locations for a longer period of time, I take one additional (uncharged) battery along as a backup. I have never, yet, had to use it.

i have both the 3rd party bl1 and the olympus version. i never have really noticed any difference between the longevity of either, i just know they last for a while. i usually recharge once a week. so unless ur shooting like a madman at that wedding, you should be covered. i have the olympus 5060wz also. in fact, you and i are like two of the only 5060wz users who use their camera consistently in challenges. we're rivals. i shouldn't be helping you. so yes, i think you'll need 5 more battery packs, just kidding.

art inept,
I looked at your profiles and I am in no way anyone for you to worry about, yet. Thanks for the info. I have the olympus battery pack, so I usually have two batteries in at all time. I have a 512mb CF card as well as the xd card in at all times too. I rarely use the xd anymore. I can usually go about twice with my card before I have to change batteries. I plan to buy at least 2 1 GB cards before the weddings. If I can find a good deal on a larger sized card I buy that in stead, but I know I can get the 1gb card for about 75.00 at Sam's Club. Just ordered my 3rd set of batteries, so I think I will be okay.

Just recently I found out I have three batteries. I knew I had two, I keep them in the grip full time. About two weeks ago I was looking through the boxes I saved from various camera accessories and found a box with a brand new, never used battery. So I guess the answer, at least for me and my 10D is two is all I need.
When I had an Olympus C-3040z I found that 8 rechargeables was often not enough for a complete day of photography and I took less than half the photos in a given day than I would with the 10D. I love not worrying about having enough juice. |

For the Mavica I have 5 and keep all charged and in the bag. With the CD they only last about an hour. For the Canon I have two and since I only got the camera two days ago I have no idea if this is enough. I can say that I have taken almost 600 pictures and have yet to change the battery.

I have 3 batteries.
Usually I find that I will end up using 2 1Gb cards to one battery, which if I am away will be about 2 to 3 days worth.
Then I have to go through and remove any bad pics so that I can take more pics the rest of the week.
So I think that if you are away for any period 3 fully charged batteries at the beginning of a week should last for the week.

haha ya right, you're killing me in the challenges. but yes, you should be fine...unless ur shooting in RAW format only or something, well, even then you should be okay. by the way, i've found that my camera always seems to produce a lot of noise, barrel distortion, and somewhat bland colors. i find myself using a lot of ps and neat image. what about you?

I don't even have neat image. Just make sure if you are using your digital zoom that you don't take it all the way out, otherwise you will get lots of noise. Have you adjusted your sharpness, saturation and contrast settings and taken a few test shots? Sent you a pm. But forgot to address the neat image question. Do you have any of the accessories? I have the battery pack as I mentioned before. It has made a world of difference for me. I keep two batteries in at all times. I have left it on continuously throughout my dd's softball games and they last 2 hours and then been able to shoot a one hour portrait session and then another game before I had to change batteries. I was just curious and with the weddings coming up, a bit nervous. Oh yeah I was telling about my accessories. I have the wireless remote that came with the camera and also the remote cable release which I purchased on ebay. Most of my gear was purchased on ebay. But not my camera. You probably didn't want or need all of that info, but there you have it.
