Well....I know many of you HATE anything related to Shutterstock but I thought I'd announce that I recieved my first check after a couple months. It was for $90. I know...we are lowing the value of our images for selling them so cheap....and blah blah blah....but they were crappy images that I was done with in my opinion and now a poor college student (Me) has 90 bucks in his pocket to go towards his new 70-200 :).

Kewl man.....I just signed up for dreamtime. Will sign up for more once I build a healthy port. I only use images that I take for stock. Anything in my DPC Prints area or ones that I am real proud of I will not sell as stock. |

If you were a real college student, you would blow that money on beer and cavorting. :)

I have about 85 images. Some of them I specifically took for the purpose of putting them on shutterstock. I also like by the beachw hen I'm in school....so I can litterally walk a half mile and get beautiful beach shots that shutterstock always accepts. :)

I sort of had a bad experience with Shutterstock and don't exactly know what I did wrong. I joined and uploaded a few photos - my first experience with stock photography ever. I received an email reply (grammatically, it looked like it was sent by a third grader) that basically informed me I had no clue what I was doing, to consider the email a warning, and that my account was being suspended, which I am indeed suspended!!!
Soooo, I've gone to Dreamstime and so far have nine photos accepted, receive well-written replies telling me exactly why certain photos cannot be accepted and encouragement to keep trying.
As I said, I don't know what I did wrong with Shutterstock, but I felt I was treated rudely. In the meantime, I am very happy with Dreamstime. |

I've never heard of Dreamstime. Your suspension may have something to do with the ratio of rejected/ accepted photos. But yes, they should take more time to explain their reasons.

But to not even get another chance. I think I only entered two, maybe three photos (on a whim). It's as if they're telling me I really suck as a photographer and they don't want any more photos from me. That just seems like bad business to me. Dreamstime, on some rejections, tells you what is wrong and offers the opportunity to try to correct it and resubmit (and not have to wait for several days because it is a resubmission. It doesn't mean they'll accept it, but it least they put you to the front for that particular photo). I guess I should be posting in the rant forum because it seems like I'm really sounding off here!!! |
