I think that you will find Canons software, both the viewer and the editing to be of value. It allows you to preview with all the camera details and settings you used. Great tool.
Have fun. |

By double clicking the raw thumbnail you should be taken to the raw converter software configured in the viewer. |

@ kirbic: I had to reinstall PS CS after I rebuilt my computer. RAW worked perfectly before, now not at all. I have a support email in to Adobe, awaiting reply.
@Cracked Egg: I hate-hate-hate the Canon software. Yes, I know, a lot of peeps like it, but for me personally, I found it to be slow, clunky and counterintuitive. I can't even explain how relieved I was to get PS CS!
If I can't get it working in the next few days, I'll just upgrade to CS2.
Thanks,
Linda |

what is configured? It may be that nothing has been configured. I don't believe there's a default. |

Sorry I can't help with the downloading problem as I have a Mac and use iView Multimedia as my viewer and manager of photos. I can comment on the Canon DPP software though. I use it all the time to process the 20D raw files. I don't have PS CS so can't use that and didn't want to upgrade Capture 1 that I was using before so reluctantly I tried DPP and I love it. I don't find it slow. I like that I can just point to the directory where I've downloaded the raw files and process from there. With C1 I had to let it download the files and it built three directories each time it did that. DPP doesn't do that and works just great for how I process raw. I only use the raw processor to change exposure and white balance. Most of the time I save in jpeg though I sometimes save in Tiff. The rest of the post processing I do in PS7. Works great for me.

OK, I just realized that you guys must be talking about the EOS software that came with the 20D. Is this correct?
I have not used the Canon RAW converter since the one that came with my 10D. Is it the same software?
I did not even load the Canon software from the 20D since I hated what came with the 10D so much, and I figured it was the same thing. If it's entirely different, perhaps I should give it a try... |

I have gotten it!!!! Hurray!
Thank you to all...
BTW- lhall I can not tell you if it is the same but my EOS viewer utility says compatable with 10d & 20d, they might have upgraded it tho...
the converter that comes with it is Digital Photo Professional 1.5 (and I upgraded online to 1.61)
hope this helps :0)
Thanks again everyone!

Originally posted by kirbic: If CS can't open the RAW file, you need to update the Adobe RAW converter. You should have v 2.4 of the converter. If you have an earlier version, download 2.4 from the Adobe website and install it. That shoudl clear up the problem with the 20D RAW files.
Note that for some more recent cams (D70s, 350D) CS will never support them, since the RAW convereter for CS is no longer being updated. |
or just get Photoshop CS 2 |

Canon has made a lot of changes in RAW from 10D to 20D. The file format is no longer .CRW, but rather .CR2. EOS Viewer Utility has replaced Zoombrowser, and 20D also has a new RAW converter program called Digital Photo Professional. DPP, and I believe EVU, have had updates posted on the Canon site since they were issued. And their are at least two updates to the 20D firmware posted. |

As I understand it, Adobe has decided that PS CS will NOT handle .cr2 RAW files. Period. The company has not put out a version of Camera Raw for CS that does so. (It does periodically upgrade the plug-in to accommodate new cameras, but not retroactively to older PS.) We faced this when we bought a Digital Rebel XT instead of the older model; they use two different versions of RAW. To work entirely in Photoshop, getting CS2 is your only option. Therefore, using the Canon Digital Photo Professional to convert Canon RAW to a more conventional format is the best way to go. (If I recall correctly, ZoomBrowser comes up short, too.) Now if I could just get Windows XP to allow me to install it....
I'm hoping that Canon owners can make such a fuss that they'll embarrass Adobe into issuing a Camera Raw plug-in for CS to handle .cr2 format instead of forcing users to upgrade to CS2 (=profits before service). Maybe it will start here. |

Try Ivan Image Converter to edit and convert Canon RAW files (CR2, CRW) to JPEG. It supports more than 40 output formats. Batch mode and command line support. find more info here: //www.ivanview.com/converter/canon-raw-cr2-crw-converter.html |

I saw a Nikon D1 in a pawnshop for $350 the other day. Looked like an great find until a quick check online showed me it was 2.5 Mp. I'll bet it was awesome just a few years ago, however. |
