Do you like how accurate Rebel white balance is?
I don't.
Here is cheap Olympus C765 Auto WB:
And Rebel Auto WB RAW

I have the 20D, it works pretty well.. I never have much problems with it. But even If I do its only a notch away on the raw processor in photoshop from being fixed.

yeah the WB is always a bit off but can be fixed easily in photoshop so it doesn't bother me.

I like the WB on my rebel, except on very overcast days.
dLSRs in general leave the pic less processed in -camera. The higher up the chain you go toward the pro cameras the less in -camera work is done, so the more PP you have to do.

dSLRs create flatter pictures as a normal feature.
You can set your 300D to create a little more vibrancy to the images. Under the menu settings change from Parameter 1 to Parameter 2.
From a chart I recall seeing posted in another thread somewhere on dpchallenge, Parameter 2 is closer to the P&S side of the chart while Parameter 1 is closer to the Professional DSLR side of the chart.
The 300D kind of stradles the chart between DSLR and P&S cameras. I might be wrong, but the AdobeRGB setting might be further into the P&S realm. |

I don't think it's really the white balance that is off. It seems fairly neutral toned, with regards to being warm or cold. It certainly needs a little more contrast, which I would achieve using levels. Even auto-levels improves the shot quite a bit.
I would also say the C765 shot is over-contrasted and over-saturated.
