Howdy all,

Looking for a critique of this shot that came from a series with my daughter. Many shots were taken at this sitting of which there are about 8-10 I really like.

My personal style involves lots of natural light, balance, natural beauty (not over posed), while still trying to capture that 'something' that makes a portrait style shot 'pop'. Still defining and adjusting my style and adding/subtracting to it all the time. As such, I would like your input on this shot, technically, photographically, artistically, etc. etc. You know the routine. Thanks for any response.

Jeff

Hmmm, how do you get it to show in the post instead of just the link?

Hoser, I don't see any images in your portfolio. Did you upload it to 'Workshop' folder ?

Ok, now it should work ..... but how do you get it to display without having to use the link?

Thanks

I really like this shot :-) The style you're talking about is my favorite for portraits...sort of a candid portraiture. Very well done, and I think you're acheiving the style you're looking for!

Jeff I am a childrens photographer and I definatly think you are on the right track. I think the light on her face is lovely, but the light on her feet is much to bright and that is the first thing my eye went to. You need to use a bigger diffusion panel or shoot in shade. I feel like she is still a little to posed for my taste, but everyone like different things. Her feet are also distracting not only because of the light but because they look like they are growing out the back of her head. If you want to have feet up then move to the side a little so they are not right behind. Get closer, parents want to see those perfect faces. But her facial expression looks like a real sime and she is just beautiful. Check out my website if you like, it is all children. If you ever have any questions feel free to email

Thanks for the comments Jamie. I didn't think the light on the feet were that distracting, I was worried more about the light off her arm ... and I didn't use any diffusion. Regarding her feet "growing" out of her head, a couple of the other shots I have are more off to the side, so I understand what you are saying. I thought the DOF would reduce the distraction level of that. Point taken. Thanks again for the input/tips ... I will visit your site.

Other comments please? Taking any and all criticisms, thoughts, etc. ... even if it is "you might try this" or "I would have done this".

Thanks

I think the model needed a plate full of brownies in front of her. Other than than, outstanding shot. Actually I noticed the feet to, though it is minor for family, but would be a bit more critical clientwise.

I think the expression is wonderful. The lighting may be a bit dark. I also would have turned her, or moved your position so that her feet were not coming out of her head. A few tweaks and you are right on! Nice job! B
