Hey Arie,
Nice Vegas pics. Most people take the Bellagio fountain shots from the strip facing towards Bellagio. I like the other way, where you took it from Bellagio facing the strip and Paris hotel. I think I have one or two from a similar view point. Nice work.

//search.ebay.com/viagra-pen_W0QQfromZR8QQfsooZ2QQfsopZ3QQsatitleZviagraQ2bpenQQsbrsrtZl forget the collection. pens are not selling hardly at all right now :(

Arie,
well, if the pens don't sell, I guess we'll just have a lot of nice metal pens amongst ourselves.

Greg,
Bigma is nickname given by photogs for the Sigma 50-500mm lens since it is a big lens. It's a 3lb big zoom. It doesn't rotate but when you zoom in, it extends. At 500mm, the thing looks like a bazooka. It's a slow lens at f5-6.3, so it's an outdoor lens, but it is reputed to be very sharp throughout the 10x zoom range and beloved by most who own it. For our 1.6x crop factor cameras, Bigma becomes a 80-800mm zoom, yea... OOooOOooOOoo
check out the pic of it here

BTW, I know this is not a meet up thread, but is anyone going out to shoot this weekend for memorial day?

05/30/2005 07:29:10 PM · #112
well, I went to the Memorial Day Parade at Canoga Park.
Maybe we should go to more parades, especially the DooDaa Paradea and the Rose Parade.

Had a blast Tom? candid portraits?

05/31/2005 01:10:00 AM · #114
It was fun and I took my Sigma 70-300mm, not enough reach from the sidewalk to get real good tight portraits, some but not close as I like. Plus the people weren't that interesting looking like at the ren faire.
If I had the Bigma, it would have been a different story though, I'd be able to count nose hairs. he he

Hey I was reading on travel gear for shooting in a British photo mag and they recommended those little walkie talkies so that everyone can keep in touch while off on their own. I actually think this is a good idea. maybe we should all get a realtively cheapie walkie talkie to keep in touch while out shooting.
What does everyone think?

talking about Sigma's I was reading latest Popular Photography and they evaluated the Sigma 18-50 EX f2.8 and they rate it very highly. This might be a good option instead of the kit lens and maybe a better range than the 28-75 of the Tamron and other zooms. Why don't others make this range of zooms in a faster lens?
05/31/2005 07:23:33 PM · #116
thats a very nice range.. *drowl* whats the price on it?

lol, well there goes my hope of ever getting one anytime soon ^.^ ... maybe later.

Well,
Atleast the new version of raw shooter is free. It has more support for Nikons and runs faster, but creates three shortcut icons, with only one working.

I'll be in my GMAT classes both Saturday and Sunday. So, I won't be able to go out. :(
06/02/2005 01:53:57 PM · #122
Neither can I, I must get some of my friends comic done this weekend.

Well, I've decided to head out to the marshes at Marina Del Ray and shoot some birds. If things look good, I'll probably return with my Bigma and a tripod. I write about how it was.

I really wish I could see your photos online. Tom, please consider posting a generic upload to shutterfly.com, snapfish.com or kodak.com. It's really easy to upload your photos, and it won't take much of your time at all... just drag and drop. Please consider! I really want to see your work :)

Marina Del Ray was a bust. You cannot walk to the marshlands. No sidewalk and no near by parking. I took a few shots at the park but I may have to do the official tour. It's on 6/23, you have a short class and then the county van drives you over there to check out birds with a guide. Won't carry any binoculars but atleast I'll have my bigma. Anyone interested?
Arie, as for posting, I've just not much interest in it for me. Maybe someday, I'll change my mind. Remind me later, I may just burn a Best of my pics on a CD ROM.
