hello,
I need to pick up a new (for me) film SLR.
I can't bring myself to spend much over a $100 for a film camera so i will be buying used...

Does anyone here have or has used Canon's Elan line of camera? Likes, dislikes?

Anything in general I should know about puchasing a film camera (I have never done this before, my pervious cameras have been borrowed...)

Thanks a lot!

I have an Elan II. The control the photographer has is very much like the 10D. Also, the DEP mode (not A-Dep) is a lot of fun.

You may have to spend more than $100 to get an Elan II body. (not much though)

oo..a little research on that DEP mode sounds pretty interesting...

the film cameras I have used are all prety old and have the focal length and all that jazz right on the lens. never knew it was much of a "feature", but I guess the ability to it automatically is enticing.

How it works:

You set the front and back of the area you want in focus (the DOF you want) and the camera sets the aperture and shutter speed that will accomplish what you want (if it can).

Sounds interesting. Is Canon the only maker that has this feature in their film cameras? Wonder why they haven't put it on any of their digital models.

I have owned an Elan IIE for about 6 years... Awesome camera, no probs ever. The eye control focus is really neat - too bad Canon has opted not to offer this on the digital SLR's thus far
