I'm starting this thread as an attempt to have a consistent location for buy, sell and trade items in Canada. There are two reasons for this. First, the other buy and sell thread was quickly thrown off topic and secondly, as Canadians we have to pay tax on items imported (even used goods) so it makes much more sense to buy within Canada. I really hope this thread gets used but I hope that it ultimately gets replaced with a Buy & Sell section in the forums.
I'd like to start this thread off with a shopping list of "wanted to buy" items I am looking for immediately:
1) 77mm circular polarizer from a high quality manufacturer...will also consider ND filter as well as both types in 72mm. Mint only.
2) A master/slave flash combo in the E-TTL line. So a 550EX with a 420EX or something...will also consider single flash purchases. Ugly but working condition is fine.
3) Monopod...light, small and Bogen. Ugly but working is fine.

Actually Mike, according to Jacko, there is no duty charged on cameras imported from the US. He called CCRA and everything. But he might have been drinking at the time so I can't guarantee it's reliable info. |

Jacko via Pedro is right. There is no duty on Digital Cameras shipped from the US. I bought my camera a couple of months ago from the US after a little price research and there were no duty charges. There is however duty on batteries and memory cards although it was an extremely low amount. I don't have my invoice on hand but for a 512 SD and 2 batteries it was less then $6.00 CAD.
It is important to note that Couriers charge their own "duty and customs charges" which are completely independent (but on top of) actual Customs duty. This is due to the fact that all the big name couriers put packages through "customs" at their own facilities to maintain their deadlines. So they charge what basically amounts to a service fee for doing that. As a result you may order a duty free item such as a digital camera and still pay duty and customs charges if you have it shipped by a courier.
Each courier does have different rules as to the amount based upon cost, size and method (speed) of shipment. But that's something I would recommend you verify with a courier.
Also..sorry I'm talkative.. You could check for US shops that ship using the borderfree program. This means that the items are being shipped through a partnership with USPS and Canada Post and you get all fees up front. |

There is absolutely no duty charged on cameras, that is correct.
I said taxes...and they hurt more than duty!

And if you ask nicely, sold used items could be shipped as "gift". So no duty fees. :-)

Well there are never duty fees.
If you mean taxes, then yeah...or I could just rob a store...there's lots of ways to save money in life. Many aren't legal, so I avoid them.
I really hope this thread sticks to buy and sell items!

I'm looking to pick-up a Canon 70-200 F4 L lens. Does anybody (in Canada) have one they are willing to sell? If not a used lens, does anybody know of a new one available for less than $870 (Cdn)?
I don't want to mess with customs and duties and broker fees, so please only lens in Canada. |

L lenses don't generally come up for sale but you might want to try the used counter at Henry's in Toronto.

The title of this thread was misleading.
I thought it was for the purpose of either selling or buying Canada.

I didn't think I would find a sale, I just wanted to check to see if there was a cheeper price than Henry's.
I checked the used department at Henry's and no luck, but I keep checking. |
