The questions are, how long until this will be in comercial products, and when will we see it in cameras with large sensors. The article only mentions phone cameras with small chips. But if I were a lens manufacturer, I would keep an eye on developments on this technology.

Don't think so: you can buy 1.3 Megapixel phones easily nowadays, and up to 4 Megapixel is available in the Far East. They look just as crap as the 0.3 Pegapixel phone cameras, only in higher resolution. The only exceptions are the bigger phones with built in optical lenses (that look like a p&s camera with a phone strapped on the back). It is definitely the lenses that are the key problem in mobile phone photography.
