ok, so I supposly won a photo contest from photography.com. they sent me a madalion and everything. I have delt with this company before and they make "coffee table readers" and practicly all photo's sent to them make it into the book because it's a scam. They sell the books at very high prices to all of those who pictures appear in the book. They want me to sign a release form for my photo and I don't know if should or not. What do you guys think?

You said it yourself, it's a scam. They do it only so they can sell YOU the book, at considerable cost.

I've heard quite a bit about this company in the forums and none of it has been good. My opinion is that you should NEVER sign off the rights to your photographs.

There's a poetry web site that does the same thing. You submit your poem and can be published, then it's like $50 for the little 'book' your poem is published in. Seems like a 'rip off' but on the other hand, someone important MIGHT just see it and like it. I wouldn't do it personally.

The price you must pay so you can say legitimately "I have been published, yes."

I checked out the URL, it seems to be a Ritz Camera owned and operated site. I saw nothing referring to anything other then the selling of their "Big Prints" photo printing service and the "Hacker Proof" logo listed prominently in the middle of the screen.

Normally a photographer gets something in return when they sign a release form. Are they offering anything?

hey joe, I have pics on there too and from what I remember the release is so they can sell items with your pics on it and you get a portion of the money. I don't recall it giving them full rights over your picture but it is always best to read with a magnifing glass. I stopped submitting there after they told me I won and send them $250 for shipping of my award....yea right.
