I'm editing photos using my notebook because the PC in for repairs and I not used to editing on this LCD screen. Is this photo too dark?

I'd say "yep," a little too dark.

My monitor is especially dark and it looks fine to me. It's dark but I assume that's a purposeful style and it's not 'too' dark for my personal taste.

Darkness may not be the issue here. It appears to have a lot of contrast, which will deepen those darks. Nothing wrong with this shot, if rich deeper tones was your goal. The problem is that there are no lighter tones to add balance. There are adequate midtones.

Yeah, I was trying to bring out the darker tones of the twig. I felt with darker tones that it enhanced the texture more. I just was worried that I went overboard, because of the monitor I was editing on.

looks fine to me

if u edited it that way, the image its self isn't shrouded in black so seems fine to me black.

I use spyder 2 pro studio on my monitor. I think it looks fine. Then again I like darker b/w photos.
