Does anyone use a lens hood? If so, what is the main purpose? Have you seen a marked improvement in the images you shoot? Is the lens hood only helpful in certain situations? I'm of the belief that the lens hood will cut down side glare from hitting the lens... Is that correct? I've never used one. Thanks for any suggestions and tips.

Hiya Nick,
The main purpose is to prevent flare from hitting the lens like you said.. I guess it protects the lens to some extent as well from the other elements...A longer hood gives better flare protection.
Suggestions? mm .. You can make a "nice" border w it, like This |

Yup cuts down on the flaring...but watch those cheap rubber ones that screw into the lens filter thread, that you can get at ritz et el, they can cause barreling on the wide end of some lenses.
