The little blue light sabres reminded me that a long time ago, in a place not so far away, I suggested that we add an avatar feature to the site. Why should the site council have all the fun with little icons?
Actually, I would really, even more than small avatars, like to see profile pics posted with messages. It puts a face on the message, making the community feel more real.
But in any case, it would be nice to have a more personalized touch in the icon spot.

I don't suppose that would be to hard to do? (I don't know anything about that sort of programming.)

I mentioned something similar a couple weeks ago.
The idea was stompped on like godzilla stepping on osama bin laden.....
..... I think its a good idea too, and may I add the only restrictions should be the size of the avatar.

There is a lot of dead space beneath the name and camera info on most posts -- it would be nice to be able to customize that area.
This is of course with the caveat that it be kept within reason -- for instance, a profile pic would be good, but only if there was a preference so those on dial-up could turn them off.
Personalizing the posts add to the individuality each brings to the site. ;)

| I like being able to tell who is on the Site Council at a glance and them having special avatars is the only way to do that as of right now. |

| I agree with crayon - how about a few to choose from? Doesn't have to be all that elaborate. I have to say, I really do not like the girl avatar hairdo. It's very dorky and makes me feel self-conscious. :op |

How about this.... We have Avatars/Buddy Icons already, the ones u upload to your profile... 1 we use those or 2 we dont....
The main thing is if they allow our Profile Avatar/Buddy Icons to display it slows the pages down....
But the suggestion there is to allow it as a preference initially turned off.

With a great big smile to establish that I am not trying to be rude or cruel or inconsiderate of those who need to express themselves....
I HATE CUSTOM AVATARS!!!! THEY ARE THE CURSE OF THE INTERNET!!!!!
For those who might not understand, the biggest reason I hate them is that there is absolutely no way to make them be pictures of the actual person. They could be any graphic. And besides, does ANYBODY want to see this....

I can't say it enough. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE no custom avatars. Selectable ones I could handle as long as they are small and similar to what we have now.
By the way,  Konador, I'm sure Redjulep doesn't mean to be insulting your personal artwork with the comment about the dorky hairdo. We still appreciate your hard work and dedication to the site. :) |
