It's beautiful!
The only thing I could think is to maybe make it a horizonal image? Just a little too much in the foreground... |

this is a butiful image, but it's to centered.
here is the image with guidelines, and the same image cropped to fit the rule of third.. hope you don't mind :)

Rules are ok, sometimes a center crop works, I like the above, but I also like the fill the orignal shot gives, what about cropping the top to keep the fill ? |

thanks for the rule, i didnt know of that. the diagrams were nice too!
this one was tough for me to crop. i wanted to ditch some of the sky, then i wanted to lose some of the water. each time i tried cropping i felt something was missing. finally i left it.
also, i took a vertical image but it looks to narrow and the shot wasnt as sharp. im still new to photography, but i know one mistake i made. i should have used iso 200 or 400, instead of 100. then i could have had a faster shutter speed and a sharper overall image. this was taken handeld with IS on and was one of my better takes since the rest were too soft. (i didnt get much of a seleciton since i didnt have many sharp images) maybe ill go back on sunday and try again...

I think that's a ribbon-winning shot there! Absolutely beautiful. If rules weren't meant to be broken, there wouldn't be rules -- the rule of thirds is just a guideline -- don't change a thing, it works well.
Of course, if it were entered into a challenge, you'd get a few people voting it 1's just because you 'didn't follow the rule of thirds' -- come on people -- this is an art of our expression -- not a classroom!
Good work, and definately keep shooting!

oh by the way...please charge a higher price. $.60 is way too low -- the shot is truly amazing.

I think you picture is wonderful. Great color and lighting. However I think the square Crop may not be the best look. Take out the areas that is not needed in the photograph and make it more of a 1.5:1 aspect ratio incase you would like to print. Hope you don't mind but I tried to see what it looked like. Here's what I came up with. What you think?

sdw65 - i dont mind at all. i like the idea of going 1.5:1. but im afraid too much cropping will make this soft shot look worse when i try to print it. im not familiar with DPI, aspect ratios and cropping - when were talking printing, so im not sure how to go about something like that yet. your edit is definately nice.
i do also like the original, because the wide angel grand view of the scene is appealing.
on a side note, i started with a 8mp 3526 x 2304 and now it's 2304 x 2304. not sure how that affects printing aside from the fact that i cant print as large and the apsect ratio is different. |

I hope that you continue to follow your own "eye" while you learn; I personally think your image was just right originally and is why it grabbed everyone. I think this is a case of the centeredness and perspective all working together beautifully.

I think the shot is awesome! I wish it were turned a degree or two clockwise - to help the horizon
