That is a major virus delivery program for Windows XP.
Is it any way I can remove it or stop it from going on after reboot?
Does not care if you block it with msconfig utility. |

AFAIK, it is required if you use some apps that depend on it. If you use non-Microsoft aps for things like e-mail and web browsing, it might be feasible to keep it from loadding, but I've never researched how to do so.

Go into the control panel, to administrative tools, to services, scroll down the list and find Messenger, right click on Messenger and choose Properties, on the drop down menu next to Start-up type, choose disabled. And, under Server status, make sure you have it set to stopped.
I believe this is the problem you need corrected! |

Yup there are several viruses that pretend to be (and use) Windows Messenger.
My take is that home users should disable Windows Messenger (msmsgs.exe not msn messenger) permanently to avoid any spyware use or infection do to Windows Messenger being active. It also takes up memory and space.
Start button > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > (on the left) Add/Remove Windows Components > Scroll to the bottom of the choices and Unselect Windows Messenger.
This will have no effect on IMs or the likes, Windows Messenger is used by us IT guys to pop-up messages on a user's machines across a network or network printer will pop-up job status etc...
This is not just an XP thing it has been around back to Win95 even OS/2 has the same function.
IMO...home users should disable Windows Messenger as there is really no need for it in a home network environment. I disabled it many years ago on all pc's in my home as there is no need for it.
Those knowing how to use the NET USE command can manipulate the Windows Messenger...

I found out that the best way to get rid of all viruses, .exe and other problem software is to get a Mac ;)
with a Mac there are NO programs with .EXE or .COM and there are NO viruses.. there is rumours about a virus for mac.. everybody has heard of it but nobody knows anyone that has got it, therefore it's just a rumour.
and.. almost ALL programs you use on your PC are available for Mac, including Microsoft Office, all Adobe products, Macromedia products, Games and almost all other programs, 2 program excluded, 3DsMax and Autocad, but equalent or better available for mac, MAYA and Vectorworks. ;) |

I have a pair of small scripts written by a computer science student in Canada when xp first came out. One will remove Windows Messenger from your OS, the second will prevent it from reappearing. Anyone interested send me a PM. The two together with a brief readme file total 6 kb. I have been using this solution for about two and a half years, it works perfectly.
