POSTPONED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER
Greetings all...
I'm organizing a photoshoot of downtown New Haven (Connecticut) for all those in the general area. New Haven is full of amazing architecture. One of the nations oldest settlements and originally a seperate colony before it's merger with the Connecticut Colony. First settled in 1638. It's downtown area was actually designed and laid out in nine squares.
New Haven is full of wonderful architecture, much of it courtesy of Yale University. It is not uncommon to see interesting characters with all the cultural influences. So come join us in photographing the city that the last 20 yrs worth of presidents, regardless of whether Democrat or Republican, have lived in for a season!
So barring downpour and rain...
LOCATION: Downtown New Haven at the Flagpole on the Green
DATE: Saturday, May 21st (rain date - Sunday 22nd)
TIME: 1pm
New Haven is also home of numerous wonderful restaurants. New Haven is almost famous for it's food. So it is likely some of us will dine out for supper afterwards. One block area has 5 Thai restaurants alone. If you've never had Thai food...think of food that's a perfect cross between Chinese and Japanese - fresh like Japanese but priced much closer to Chinese!
Hope to see you there...
Any questions, feel free to email Saj@easternstorm.net
Sincerely,
Jason "The Saj"
PS - if you can RSVP and let me know you're interested that'd be great...but not necessary. Feel free to just show up at the last minute too!
DIRECTIONS:
From North...Take I-91 South, take Exit 1 to downtown connector. Cross all lanes to the right. Take first exit. Continue straight off exit...(you should see an unusuall dark red stone building with 4 columns on your right). Take RIGHT at top of hill onto Church St. Continue straight. Green will be on your "left".
FROM the East...Take I-95 South to I-91 North. Take Exit 3. Go straight till Whitney Ave. Take LEFT onto Whitney. Continue straight. Green will be on your "left".
FROM the South...merge onto I-91 North.Take Exit 3. Go straight till Whitney Ave. Take LEFT onto Whitney. Continue straight. Green will be on your "left".
Map of Downtown (kinda blurry wish they had a better one posted)

I have lived in the new haven area for years. I'd be into trying to attend- but I feel I would suffer from ludicrous camera envy with my G1 and pentax!!!!
Bangkok gardens is a fantastic restaurant though- they meake a "stuffed chicken wing" that is fantastic. Oh, but then there is the etresian restaurant- and don't forget pepe's and Sally's!
Two awesome spots that I photograph all the time when I am there are the alleys between chapel and college/york, and the audobon section.
I'd love to show up, even for the food and conversation. |

That's 220-odd miles for me. Anyone got a room they could loan me for the night?
Robt.

Show up blindjustice...
I mean, did we not just have a blue ribbon with a 1.4megapixel. And who knows, maybe you can borrow a camera from someone and see which brands and models you like best for when you upgrade. ;)
But at the least it'll be fun!
Bangkok Gardens is good but on the pricier end. Thai-Inter tends is pretty good. And so is Thai Taste. And both are somewhat cheaper. Then there's the indian restaurants. Pepe's rocks!!! There is Lou's Lunch One of three places with claim to inventing the hamburger. There is also The Bar (micro-brew with decent pizza).
So many options...
;)
I really hope you can make it! |

My house is a bit of a mess...but I do have an extra storage room with a bunkbed! So perhaps something can be worked out. ;) |

Just checked the weather...and it looks like it will be a good day for photography. Of course...this was the 10-day forecast and thus is subject to great change... *lol*

Forecase still looks decent, a little cooler...but still pretty decent...so I would recommend bringing the long sleeve shirt just in case.

Are we still doing this? The forecast is now calling for rain, and the response has been underwhelming. Shall we postpone for a brighter day? |

I just checked the weather myself and it's looking like PM' showers...both for Saturday and Sunday.
*bummer*
So yes....barring a dramatic change in the weather (it is after all New England so anything is possible) let's postpone it till a sunnier day.

Weather is looking distinctly marginal, not worth the 200 mile drive for me. Let's shoot for some nicer weather in June?

Well the weather outside looks beautiful, and the forecast for rain doesn't seem too strong until about 4pm.
So I'll probably go downtown at 1pm if things stay the same and just do some casual photography if any one shows up.
:)
We'll still re-schedule for the future....

Now I got roped into a neighbor's sheep shearing party at 4 (woohoo), so I'm a definite no-show. :-( |
