I am downloading my upgrade right now!

We were told we'd have to wait until some time next month, but I decided to have a quick look anyway, juuuuuuuust in case.
And ta-da! Here was the download button!

CS2? You're kidding. What could they have possibly added now to encourage us to pay another $180, or whatever it was, to upgrade again?

Edit: Nevermind. I looked at their site. Doesn't seem like the changes are earth shattering. I think they purposely add a little bit here and there just so they can create a "new version" and sucker you into buying the upgrade...

I just bought it last week for $299. Though told I'd have to wait till May for the order to ship.

I figured I had a choice....

Photoshop Elements 2.0 for $0.00

OR

Photoshop CS2 for $299.00

So I finally took the plunge...

So Beetle was is the review? thumbs up or no? Is it worth digging into the savings again to support this PS addiction.

Merge to HDR is worth the price of the upgrade alone.

There are a few quick time demo's of some of the new features. The vanishing point feature looks really cool.

Here is another thread about it - including little reviews.

I saw a demonstration of a bunch of the new features at a photo convention this week, and they are AWESOME!! CS2 is definitely worth the upgrade for photographers.. The new vanishing point feature is incredible, especially when cloning.. I highly recommend it :)

I pre ordered mine a few weeks ago and was told that they would start shipping in mid May. I checked the web site 3 days ago and it said they started shipping already. Later that day it was delivered. (-:

photoshop cs 2 raw has been vamped enourmously. The smart sharpen filter is just so easy to use over the conventional method. The new spot cleaning brush works like a charm. The noise filter I think is not as good as neat image but it works better in the sense that it doesnt make the image look plasticy. There a whole lot of other new features just very well done. I think there really going for the photographic crowd this time. I am glad I upgraded I would have to say I would recommend the upgrade to all.

I think most software vendors are guilty of this to some extent, no? After all, in order for them to earn a continued profit, they can't just release one version every five years!

Generally the changes are in response to consumer research and, whilst they might not be earth shattering, most will definitely be considered enhancements by many users.

Also, don't forget that, with PhotoShop, users seldom upgrade to every new version, though I'm sure there are some who choose to do so. Most will buy their initial version and then upgrade a few versions later when they reach a point at which they really need a lot of the features that the latest version offers them over their previous one.

We were using Photoshop 6.0 and upgraded to Photoshop CS just before the new version came out because we wanted to use the latest version of Genuine Fractals and wanted improved RAW handling.

Last week I spoke to Adobe Customer Service in the UK and because I bought my upgrade just before the new version was released (I would have pre-ordered the new version had I known how imminent it was) and because the latest Adobe Camera Raw plugin is not compatible with Photoshop CS, they sent me a free upgrade to CS2.

I'm glad I upgraded just for the new RAW pluggin and the Bridge! I can do batch raw processing using the bridge and still work in PS without slowing down my system!! WOW!! :-)

Yes smart sharpen is cool and the noise reduction works well half the time.

There are a few big deal items here.

The CS2 suite has an unbelievable "Photo Merge" function. If you bracket the exposure of a shot, for example, it will combine the bracketed images preserving the best detail in both the light and dark areas to a depth of 8, 16 or 32 bits. Unfortunately not legal for DPC but fantastic for photographers!

Smart Sharpen may(?) be better than previous sharpening tools. Jury's still out. High Pass filter and Lab Color techniques seem to do a bit better job, but it could be it's just because I know them.

Smart Objects look good!

And there's an unbelievable perspective tool you have to see to believe. Clone, copy/paste, heal in true perspective. Truly unbelievably cool!

Not sure noise reduction is as good as Neat Image. Jury's still out. Neat Image still works as a pluggin.

So far as I'm concerned, it was worth the upgrade price!

Based on using it for a short while, there still seem to be memory leaks which cause it to go boom with a lot of big images open at the same time. I had a dozen photos adding up to about 400 MegaBytes all open at once and it crapped out. But that might be a PC limitation rather than a problem w/ PS CS2. Good thing I don't do that very often!

This sounds amazing - I was talking only recently of the idea (that I haven't tried yet) of shooting one RAW image, converting twice, once for highlights and once for shadows, and combining in PS - but was thinking how much work it might be combining the two images.

Can't WAIT to try THIS!
