The buildup to this has been on UK's Channel 4 this week. You can go here to have a look at the shortlisted photographers and a small collection of their work.
I wouldn't have chosen the winner..Shore and Engstrom, IMO, are better from what I saw on TV this week. And having one photographer who doesn't actually take photographs seems a bit radical!
How would they have done at DPC?....and what does that say about DPC or what is perceived as 'Art' these days? Note that the jury appears to be gallery owners/curators rather than photographers.

If DPC was full of photos like those, I would not be on DPC.
In fact I dare say that most of us wouldn't.
DPC would have a very different feel to it, due to a very different clientele.
When I followed your link, I saw so many photos that I would have deleted right away, or at least been terribly disappointed with.
Guess I'm just not an "artist". |

My thoughts exactly.
Nowadays it seems trendy to produce 'art' only artistes can understand.

Engström's stuff is great. Can't help but be impressed by Sasse's volcano shot too.
As for the winner, I'm guessing that his "monumentally sized panoramas" lose a little bit of impact when reduced to 390 pixels across!
I managed to miss the buildup on C4 completely. |
